rack and pinion diffrences

hey guys i cracked my housing on my 98 and my buddy with an 01 gave me his sense he just did a SAS, and once we got it in i noticed the new one had press in pressure and return lines where my 98 has threaded...

so my question is where could i get the hoses to convert my hoses to accept the 01 hoses?
and should i still run the cooler because i noticed he didn't have one on his when we were demoing his truck for the SAS

Thanks for everything
-Andy

Icon3 Try>>>

If you take both sets of lines to NAPA, they can adapt them for ya....

I've used them before to convert PS lines from one vehicle to another.

Time to go to your local boneyards and find a wrecked 01 that still has the lines, then as I said, go to NAPA and getem done.

Any parts clerk worth a hoot will try a few different years and find a set to match your rack. I have no idea what years used those fittings, but it'll jump out as a different part number. Take the old lines with you.

First of all I would ask the guy who supplied the rack if he still has the original 2001 hose available. There's a chance that it would fit your power steering pump. If not, you could always check with a parts store for a 2001 hose and check it for fit.

If the 2001 hose doesn't match up to the 98 PS pump, it may be possible to combine most of the 98 hose assembly with the 2001 lower fitting using a high pressure 3/8" compression fitting. I did basically the same thing when I did my V8 swap using a 99 Explorer upper with a 2001+ Ranger lower.

the guy that gave me the rack pitched the 01 lines in the trash, and now that ford is open im just going to go there and get the fitting because the only thing i could get from the auto parts store is the pressure line and not the return line or evan the return line fitting for that matter

i also went to the JY and looked for the fittings but for some reason it looks like they only used that form of fittings on the 01 ranger edge... which i think is stupid
not evan the explorers had any of these fittings

My 03 does not have the thread-in fitting at the rack. It uses the tube/retainer plate like the 2001 Ranger. AFAIK, the Ranger used the thread-in type in 98 through 2000 and the Ex through 2001. That's why I had to make the hybrid Ranger/Explorer hose assembly to install the 99 Ex 5.0 in my 2003.
