Medium front bars because you have 2WD with the heaviest engine, base rear springs because it's 2WD and yours wasn't optioned with Payload Package#2. Makes sense to me.

So I have C rear springs....that means payload package 2 but what exactly does that consist of? I was never aware of having any kind of payload package....

One of the options on my original window sticker lists 4700 GVWR .....is that a payload package?

The literature I have says that a 2003 reg cab 4x2 w/4700 GVWR has the base Payload Package 1 for that truck and that it should come with the C springs. GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

You have coils springs up front and there are 5 different coil spring rates made for Rangers. You have "D" coils and "K" leaf springs. I don't have any info on coil spring codes.

so I probably don't want 1 torsion bars if i crank them ? it will be like driving a brick with wheels? the back on mine seems perfect i get very little body roll etc . if i could find a set of 1's at a junk yard for cheap that could be groovy just to try them out . maybe i'd like them but i'm thinking only at stock ride height.

The #1 bars work very well on a 4x4. They will not ruin your truck's ride.

Cranking the bars conservatively is not too bad either. It doesn't matter which torsion bars you have, if you crank them a lot, the ride will get harsh because the suspension will top out the front shocks much more often. For a good ride, you need adequate travel in both directions.
