Gas Mileage wierd?

I filled up my tank a couple days ago and I had gotten 24mpg city, I dont drive it all that nice either.

Its a 94 XLT, 4.0, 5sp, 2WD and the entire take I had 300 pounds in sandbags in the back.

Is this wierd or should I just be happy?

Was the load stacked up high enough that it sorta flattened out the aerodymics over the bed of your truck? I know the best I have gotten with the 4.0 highway, was with the bed filled with my junk, as well as behind the seats and infront of the passenger seat. The bed was covered with a tarp so it prolly acted like a tonneou cover. Got just under 24mpg through N.D. and Montana.

Tripmeter off of gas used to top tank off on refill, while being careful to top off the same way the entire trip to keep things accurate. It was the first long distance trip I had to make with my truck. I bought it in tech school from a place outside of Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls. When I graduated and went home for recruiter's assistance in Minnesota, I didn't keep track so much due to the weather I wound up driving through most of the way, so I kept it a bit slower. But from Minnesota out to Nevada, I wanted to see how well it could do so I was pretty adamant about getting it right :) The best tank I got on that trip came out to be about 23.6666666 etc MPG. The worst, 19.5 or so. I mostly stayed in the 19.5-21.5 range. I think that tank was just the right combination of Altitude, Temperature, and some good gas. :)

Milage since last fill divided gallons to fill tank.

I usually average about 20 to 21mpg.
