Power Dome on '04+

Has anybody ever modded an '01-'03 Power Dome hood to fit on an '04+? IIRC, they're made out of fiberglass or SMC, right? I found a mint Power Dome from an '04 FX4 in a local junkyard, and I'm considering a "winter project".
Thanks

Yes they are fiberglass. I would just look for and 04+ one but you could do it. I want to say Sully did it. Let me search real quick and I'll see if I can find a thread.

Sully got that from Scott(RangerExtreme) who had John(wvcat) cut the hood for him. John did this on one of his trucks too. One thing I noticed is when you cut out the section it doesnt have the same contour as the grill.

Hey I really like the way your truck looks, makes me want to do this mod. Can anyone give me more info on what is meant by the contours not lining up? Also did he basically just cut the hood with a dremel, how was the fiberglass sealed? I looked back at the posts when the hood was made and I couldn't find any of this info.

was thinking this was sully's thread, but if anyone knows the answers?

the countours meaning the edge of the hood dosnt meet the front edge of the grille making it look smooth. the grille kinda pops out like a quarter of an inch or so. if you need better pics I can do eet

Oh ok thank you. I don't need a picture, but if you have one I would love to see it. Just trying to decide if I should go ahead and order an 04 grill and try this mod out, I like the mini f250 look

IIRC There was a post here long ago from a body shop guy who stated these hoods are not fiberglass ,but a composite material . I can't find the post but remember he said it was similar to FG but had to be treated a little differently .

While we are on the subject of hoods. I have an '03 XLT FX4 with the "raised" hood (or dome as you are calling it here). Does anyone know which years these hoods were used?

I've cut 2 of them. I used a cut off wheel and a grinder to cut them. In the case of Scott's/Sully's hood Scott wanted to cut the back so it would be kinda like a cowl induction hood. I thought it weakened the hood too much. After cutting the front you also have to cut clearance holes under the hood.

A couple comparison pics
