Maintenance Day
Weather was just wonderful today. Shorts and a t shirt. So that means lots of work got done. Started out working on SoccorJimmy's seat. It's just about finished. Then focus turned to my truck. Oil change, trans fluid change, blower resistor/wiring, rotors, repack bearings, change bleeder valve, change fuel filler neck, top rear end off, and put some interior back together was all on the list.
all the supplies laid out:
Oil is changed, trans is drained, waiting to be put back level to refill.
Old rotors:
New rotors on, spacers painted: (sorry for the finger)
need to trim the studs down. My wheels do not have any other holes in them for clearance:
Trimmed and touched up: still need to do the other side.
went to change the bleeder valve on the driver's side (stripped last time i tried to bleed), and it just won't budge. so my wife stopped and got 2 reman calipers. will paint them in the morning and put them on. I need to sand black the brackets yet, but that will have to wait for another day.
Changed the blower resistor. by looking at the wiring, i thought i might have gotten lucky. i'm glad i bought the new pigtail. it was corroded together. changed out the resistor and wiring, now the fan speeds work like they are supposed to.

also found a nice hole in my heater box. not sure when or how it happened. might have been a couple years back, had a right front blow out. that probably explains why i still get air blowing even with the hvac off.
and here she sits for tonight. hate seeing it up like that.
so tomorrow, i need to put the calipers on, bleed the brakes, trim the other set of wheel studs, torque all the lugs and fill the trans. have some new needles for the gauges, and a new emblem for the airbag. will probably get the dash back together as well.

busy day there! i still need it to be a bit nicer here before i dive into a "maintenence day". wifes blazer needs new rotors/calipers/pads, rear axle seals, oil change, my truck needs front brake pads, oil change, tire swap. got all the parts already, just need it to be warmer and have a whole day free to do it. yesreday would have been good if i didnt have to be at work. got cold again today.

Got the majority of it buttoned up today. I think I need to bleed the brakes again, but will probably wait til wednesday evening when my wife is home. i'll need to retorque the adapters then as well, so i'll have the wheels off. got the new calipers painted and installed. weird thing, the bleeder valves are different sizes from side to side. not sure why.
Ended up pulling the console out and the hurst out to fill the trans. so much easier than trying to do it from the side. I have a major leak going on with the hurst. seemed to be coming from between the mounting plate and the unit that actually holds the arm. There wasn't a gasket there, so put one in there. maybe that will help it. i have a groove cut in the base plate as well to help with pressure. also made the stock rubber boot fit over the shifter so that should keep the fluid out of the carpet.
got the needles installed and test drove it just a little. can't tell a difference in the brakes, but didn't get much over 20mph.

oh yeah, forgot about these. 2 more sets of HIDs. one is a hi/lo 9007 kit and the other is a 55 watt H3 set. I plan to change the ballasts for my projectors for now. not sure what i'm going to do with the 9007s yet. figured i would get them before DDM stopped selling them.
My daughter was helping me put the shifter back together. She (almost 4 years old) said to me, "daddy, I really like your truck." That was pretty cool. I just need to get her out helping me more.

Brakes work well! went real easy on them for the first week, then really tested them out.
Pulled the bed off today to replace a cracked fuel filler hose...found two cracks in the frame. the crossmember right over the rear axle is split in half, and there is a small crack starting at one of the holes for the bumper mount. will have to get some gas for the welder and fix them in a few weeks. while the bed was off, found some bad connections in the tail lights. got rid of the butt splices and soldered the connections.
Also, while the bed was off, checked to see if the Bronco II gas tank will fit. nope. when i did my expo axle, i moved the passenger shock behind the axle. now it's in the way of the tank. other than that, looked good.
so now, i'm working on the seats, and the hids will come tomorrow. also doing another interior piece as well.

rotors are from ebay. i think the seller was advanced braking or something like that. has 6 different styles to choice from.
