Suggestions on how to make her mean

Hey there everyone,

I recently invested in some new tires for my 2.5, and now my truck is starting to look mean and small. Exactly what the doctor ordered. In Tucson, you usually see all types of small truck beat to the ground, And before my ranger I had a 5.6 Titan. Which now sits in the yard, awaiting some love. One day. Anyway, I’ve been playing around with the idea of some new fuel injectors, a exhaust, and a cold air intake. I’ve done most free mods, as well as rebuilt most of the steering related issues it had (funny enough everything was shot), and can’t forget that K&N fuel filter, which is well worth the $16. I’m looking for an exhaust that has a little low hum to it, because with the 2.5 I don’t want to go asking too much. And any ideas on fuel injectors that would possibly increase output. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

and I already know, V6 3.0 Lima, or 80’s Mustang, throw my money at those things. But for a 21 year old that wants to be a mechanic in the future, I want to struggle and solve issues that come up. If you can polish a turd to shine, you can get a diamond to glisten

all the best,
Gabriel Villa

No, on the fuel injectors, it doesn't work that way, all you would get is a RICH code and the same power, maybe less

Your 2.5l is a stroked version of the earlier 2.3l Lima engine, so Mustang forums are a good place to see what works and what doesn't
You have a same head as a 2.3l so headers for one will work on the other, but that doesn't change the sound

Larger diameter and longer exhaust pipe will lower the tone of any exhaust

E-fan is the only win-win upgrade for an engine with a mechanical fan
You win on the gain in HP, it ain't much but ain't 0 either
And win on gain in MPG
Only modification that can do BOTH

This is what I'm doing.
95% of our HP/TQ gains will be found in the cylinder head, cam, lower intake and upper intake - in that order.

Cheap mods:
-If you are replacing the timing belt, install an adjustable cam gear and use the "bar method" to set the cam "straight up", the Ranger Roller cam is ground 8° retarded.
-Find a junkyard exhaust manifold from a '98-'01 (2.5L), the collector end can free up some ponies with some grinding. It's pretty obvious once you look/measure...

The inside measures 1.75", the ID of the 2" OD cat pipe is 1.87", almost 1/8th of an inch difference. There are also 2 steps cut in the collector that need to be ground down/smoothed.
The collector beyond the steps is 2" or larger in diameter...
