Help 3.0 swap
Help 3.0 swap
Hello. My 00 ranger has a 3.0 and its auto. I dropped a valve a couple months ago. Final got the money up and found a used one. I got everything back together this week and now shes not getting fuel. I replaced the fuel pump about a month before it dropped the valve. I know the engine will run off spray . But I'm not getting any fuel to the engine bone dry. Any advice would be great

When you turn on the key does the CEL(check engine light) come on?
It should, it means the computer is booting up, the computer operates the fuel pump
Your Ranger has PATS(passive anti-theft system) with key on the THEFT light on the dash should come on and then go OFF, if it flashes rapidly it means Fuel system is shut down because Key in ignition did not clear PATS test
If none of the above
In engine fuse box check/swap fuse #9 it is fuel pump power fuse
In same fuse box Relay #9 is the fuel pump relay, it should Click closed with key on, then click open 2 seconds later, put finger on it and have someone turn on the key
You can swap power window relay and this relay, they should be the same relays
In passenger side of cab under glove box on the firewall or behind the kick panel will be the inertia switch, it has a RED button on the top, press it down if it is up, this switch cuts fuel pump power if its "tripped" in an accident
Battery(12v)-----------fuse 9--------------FP relay-----------------inertia switch-------------------------------------------------fuel pump-------ground

I checked all those. My relay is working. And I checked the safety switch under the dash. The theft light turns off. No check engine light tho but I believe that bulb blew a long time ago. It says check gages tho. But I belive its because the truck isn't running. Is it possible to plug the wires harness in wrong? If not I'm going to pull the bed in the morning and check my pump its self
You should hear the fuel pump run with key on, just for 2 seconds but EVERY TIME key is turned on it will run
If its not running and fuse is OK then yes the new fuel pump is the problem
Motorcraft fuel pumps are best but 3 times the price of others
Others are OK but you may have to swap out 2 or 3 under warranty to get one that lasts
