New clicking that happens periodically

Hey all, I got a 2000 3.0 ranger, and for a bit now I’ve had some sort of clicking or noise that I’m not sure the cause of. The main times I hear it is when I’ve been driving for long periods of time or the most when I drive 60+ for a bit and let go off the accelerator when coming to an exit ramp for example. But if I tap the accelerator again when I hear it, it goes away and comes back when I let go. Just a note when I cruise below 60 after the case it’s gone. Any insight would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum

Manual or automatic?

If you shift into Neutral and coast does the noise stay or go away?

If it goes away then it is engine/trans RPM related
If it stays then it is Driveline related, i.e. u-joint or slip joint

I slapped it in neutral and the noise stays and when I push accelerator during that time too it gets louder with a couple different clicks

You don't "slap it in neutral", just get up to speed(going downhill if possible) and shift to neutral, let the engine RPMs go to idle

If noise is gone then it was coming from the engine, most likely, transmission maybe
