no power steering - '99 3.0

Kinda sucks driving around town without power steering after a while. I bought the truck this way, so I don't know the history.

Ok, so the PS pump is hooked up, the pulley spins freely with the belt while the engine is running, and the reservoir is full of what looks like very clean fluid. Doesn't make any noise at all, but I have no power steering.

All my experience with PS pumps, when they go out or even start to go out they are noisy, and quite often it will seize up.

Is it possible for my pump to be bad, yet it still act fine?

I don't have a picture of the 99 P/S pressure line assembly, but Ford liked to use mufflers on their pressure lines around that time frame. They look like a little canister in the middle of the line, usually about 2" long and about 1 1/2" to 2" in diameter. They cannot be flushed out and they sometimes get clogged up.

Hmm, really. Ok, well I will look into that, hopefully that will fix it. Sounds cheaper than buying a whole new power steering pump.

It's too cold to mess with it today.. but when it warms up I will replace that muffler thing and update what happens.
