Wont stay running
I know they make different fuel pumps for the rangers the one I have it works right with the key ,the only thing that's different is the way the lines come out of the top of the tank, would that be enough to keep me from getting fuel to the rail
Fuel injected Rangers used a "return" type fuel system up to 1997, and even after that, lol
So there are two fuel lines at the top of the tank, an OUT(from pump) and an IN(return from engine's fuel pressure regulator in 1987)
They would, of course, have to be hooked up correctly, or no fuel would flow to engine
1987 Ranger may have a fuel reservoir in the frame rail, looks like this: https://www.broncocorral.com/forums/...073-jpg.10249/
This may or may not have a filter inside, if you can't unscrew the plastic "cap", don't force it, or it will break, then its just a reservoir no filter inside, "cap" is glued on
If it does unscrew replace the filer or clean it
This was a filter on earlier models that used carburetors, with mechanical fuel pumps on the engine, it holds "prime" for mechanical pump
When the 2nd high pressure pump was added(in frame rail) for fuel injection, it is used as a reservoir to hold enough fuel so high pressure pump doesn't "run dry" on start up

Shouldn't start at all if high pressure pump was bad
But.............may have to find a fuel pressure gauge to rent of borrow just to make sure fuel pressure is not the issue
There is a test port on passenger side of lower intake, looks like a tires air valve because that IS what it is, a schrader valve
Key on should show 10-20psi
After start up should show 30-40psi and then STAY above 30psi while engine is running

Can you keep it idling using the throttle?
If so then yes, could need a new IAC Valve, you can only use Motorcraft or Hitachi brand IAC Valves
If it still dies with throttle open a bit then its not a air flow issue

I can get it to start but when u press on the throttle it cuts out almost like its sucking air! Could the be my throttle position sensor? I just replaced it about a week ago but I kmo was they can go out really easy sometimes
