2020 Ranger Squealing While Driving

Has anyone had this issue? There is a squealing noise coming from the back, underneath the truck, only when driving. It’s been described as a UFO noise, best way I can describe it is Patrick’s “LEEDLE LEEDLE LEE” but in a higher pitch or maybe a siren of some sort. It starts at about 25mph and just gets faster and faster from there. It’s pretty annoying, I don’t think anything is seriously wrong with it but I would like for it to shut up, so if anyone has had this issue or has any advice, please, let me know. I’ve looked for hours on the internet and nothing has come even close to the sound my truck is making. It’s got about 5000 miles on it, barely got it in October brand new.

Welcome to the forum

Any reason you can't take it to Dealer?

Reads like a rear axle issue but................you could rotate the tires just to be sure its not wheel/tire noise

Same problem

Dealer could not tell what it was because it didn’t occur while the test drove. Attaching sound.

Try turning your fan on. Sounds silly, but I just got a 2021 Ranger and it made the same sound the other night on my way to work. It was a chilly night so I turned the fan on and it quit. Hope this helps.

I have a 2019, it was in a front end collision. However, after fixing it and driving it, same sound. The drive shaft center support bearing failed. Odd thing, it didn't get worse the faster you drove. It squealed up to about 25 mph....working on changing it out now.

It turned out to be the ABS. The ABS is always engaged. The mechanic made an adjustment and the sound disappeared. Thank God.

Have you gotten any answers? The exact same issue started in our 2020 the other day. It starts as you accelerate and goes away as soon as you slow down. Then it’s completely gone for the rest of the day.

I’m having the same issue with my 21 Ranger. It’s very loud and very annoying, it does sound like it’s coming from the rear end. Has anyone found a solution to this? I’m taking mine to the dealer tomorrow

Please let us know what they tell you. We are taking ours in next week. Is it continuously doing it?

I have same issue with my 2021. Starts at about 35mph. At first I thought it might be a door or window noise.. It is very loud and will usually go away in 20 min of driving. Afraid if I take in to dealer, unless they have it overnight they will not hear it.. I was thinking a wheel bearing or maybe a driveline bearing…

21 Ranger whining noise

Have any of you gotten an answer on what is causing the whining noise on your Ranger?
I have had my 21 Ranger for just over a month and the whining is driving me nuts. It seems to only do it when it's cold outside??? Sound seems to come from rear passenger side of the truck. I have taken it to the dealer and they could not get it to happen. I have recorded it and sent the sound clip to them with no response. Ford has to be able fix this with as many posts as I see related to the same problem.
Any help or ideas on what is causing the noise??

no answers yet..

Mine does exactly the same thing but it happens so inconsistently that taking to the dealer under warranty might be a total waste of time.. of all the scenarios I think the center drive shaft bearing may be the bad actor.. it sometimes stops after hitting the brakes or hitting a bump.. im at a loss as to how to prove it... still following and hoping for an answer..

Squealing noise

No answer yet. We took the wife’s truck to dealer but they couldn’t recreate, too warm. It is scheduled to go back Tuesday and temps are supposed to be in the 20’s (hopefully it will do it for them). It sounds like it’s coming from the center bearing area, maybe the seal, maybe the bearing. It does the same as everyone else reports, and goes away after about a mile or with the first stop. We will keep you posted (no pun).

The dealership had vehicle overnight and this morning they heard the noise. Tech stopped to look under the hood and the noise was gone (exactly as each of you has probably experienced). They are keeping the truck overnight and hopefully will get it figured out tomorrow or at least escalate it up to master or regional techs.

keep y’all posted

I purchased mine in October ‘20 all was great for a year and now I have the same issues been living with it for a couple months. First noticed around 10k miles. it would only happen on initial acceleration and stop when the truck reached idle speed it was very intermittent at this point over the last week it has been for that initial acceleration of every trip no matter how long I let the vehicle warm up. Today however it is pretty much a constant noise when the vehicle is traveling over 25mph. Called the dealer hoping the noise stays the way it was today they will without a doubt hear it.
as For the other forum I read through. Some have narrowed it down to either the center bearing in the drive shaft or a bearing inside the driveshaft itself. One person mentioned the dealer finally replaced the driveshaft and they’ve had no noise since.
hope this helps someone

Fixed fingers crossed

So the dealer did finally hear the noise and replaced the driveshaft assembly. The thought they narrowed it down to center support bearing. Day one no noise 🤞

dealer claimed it was a rock stuck in the brake pad, claimed to be fix but still getting the horrible noise

Go back to the dealer and ask them if they securely stored "that rock", because evidently it has ESCAPED and found its way home

Unfortunately you may need to move so "the rock" can't find you again, and of course change jobs if you drive the Ranger to work

Still no return of the noise. Center support bearing and driveshaft replacement worked

Mine has been in the shop for 4weeks now waiting on parts. He confirmed that it was the drive shaft assembly, the center control bearing as well. They have several rangers in the lot for the same issue. Hopefully this is the fix

I hope it solves your problem. It took a week to get our parts and repair done. Best of luck!

2020 2.3 4x4 squealing as well.

i am so glad I hopped on the forum. The Ranger I have is for work and only has 17,000 miles on it. The same squealing noise happened except for the first guy instead of 25mph mine starts doing it at about 35 to 40 mph. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't figure it out. I will definitely get with the dealership and tell them about the ABS and the drive shaft center support bearfing. If anybody else has more recommendations please let me know.
