Icon4 Mating m5r1 Transmission to Engine

Hello Everyone. I am looking for some assistance with a m5r1 trans on a 98 ranger 4x4. I am having problems getting the trans to mate flush with the engine. Backstory. The first time I reinstalled it, it went in fine. But I forgot to lube the splines. So I unbolted the transmission from the exhaust mount but forgot to put the jack under the oil pan, and the trans fell down while still attached to the engine but didn't hit the ground. I have no idea what I was thinking... anyway... My helper Got a jack back under both while i pushed up on the trans. but after I took it off to oil up the splines I haven't been able to get it mesh back correctly. Im wondering I can get the splines in smoothly but the slave cylinder does not seem to want to compress enough against the pressure plate fingers for the input shaft to fit into the pilot baring. So I am about 1/2 -1 inch away from the bell housing being flush. Anyone have any ideas what could be hanging up?

This is about as close as I have been able to get it. When I push in it feels like the clutch spring is so strong it pushes the trans back and out. And I am not sure what to do in.

Someone.. anyone please help. I have been trying to line this up for the last 5 days.

Welcome to the forum

First..............did you use a self-adjusting pressure plate, its important, must use a self adjusting pressure plate, it has the 3 or 4 small springs around the outside of forks

With pressure plate loosened up insert clutch disc/pilot bearing alignment tool.......again, just to confirm its aligned so input shaft can slide into the pilot bearing hole correctly
Tighten up self adjusting pressure plate

Check that Block plate is on the engine side of flywheel, that's the thin metal piece use to align starter motor with ring gear
Open bleeder on slave, always, when installing transmission
Slide transmission into place, wiggle it to get it to slide on to alignment dowels all the way
Bolt it in place

Is the slave hydraulic line connected? If not you probably are compressing the the pressure plate fingers and that is what is giving resistance to seating the bell housing. Either connect the slave line or open the bleed valve to release the pressure building up in the slave. You want the fluid in the slave to flow out and not compress the pressure plate.

It is also possible you may have miss aligned the clutch disc with the pilot bearing. Have you checked with the alignment tool?

Hello thank you for the reply. It is a self adjusting clutch and the clutch key slides in and out smoothly. Everything seems to be in line.

Thank you for the reply! I don't have the bleeder open I will do that now, also the line was not connected to the slave..everything else seems to be in alignment.

Hello and thanks for the reply! Yes I used a self adjusting Luk kit. 07-139 I think. I just opened the slave but still can't get it to mate up. Block plate is in the correct position as well.

First place the trans in gear and rotate the output to see if you can walk the splines in while wiggling the transmission.
A buddy helps with this.

If that doesn't work pull the trans and check the clutch with an allignment tool. If the clutch disc was pulled off center by the tip of the splined shaft then you will need to loosen the pressure plate bolts insert the allignment tool, and retighten the clutch plate bolts, and then pull the tool and install the trans.

Also if you pull the trans check to see if the pilot bearing hole is clear of anything in there.
