question about the exhaust

I think i wanna make my truck louder so i can get tickets for my exhaust being too loud anyways right now my 01 4.0 sohc has just a muffler delete its actually pretty quiet. My question is the pipe that has the cats on it after the y pipe looks like the first one is for sure a cat and has an o2 sensor right after it but the one behind that, is that actually another cat or is it a resonator or something? the o2 sensor is in-between them and theres nothing after it so it should be safe to remove? i may or may not do it just curious right now

I am not aware of any Ranger having a resonator from the factory. What you are describing sounds like the main catalytic converter. It would be illegal to remove it although it might make the exhaust louder. Then you could get tickets for loud exhaust and a big fine for removing emissions equipment.

Rangers, 1995 and up had an O2 sensor added after the Catalytic converter(s) as part of the emissions system, it tests if Cat converter is working by comparing the upstream O2 oxygen levels to the downstream(after cat) oxygen levels.

So anything after the downstream O2 sensor wouldn't be part of the emissions system, but.............
Non-stock exhaust can "flagged" and you may need to pay extra to have an inspection to certify and changes meet requirements.

Louder is lower frequency sound waves, just add larger diameter pipes, after Cat converter(s), and that will make exhaust louder.

Apparently OP is intentionally trying to get a ticket for noise. Sounds pretty stupid (the idea, and the sound of your truck after you pull all that stuff) if you ask me.

I understand what you mean with muffler delete and quiet. My truck i bought with a muffler delete done.. I was driving around for a few days before I realized it had no muffler haha. I come from being a jeep owner of a 4.0 inline. My jeep was loud as hell with no muffler.. and with a glasspack it was still very loud. This truck has no muffler and it purrs like a kitten Very good cats it must be. I don't chase noise anymore so it doesn't bother me. However if you could always chop a cat off but then its just for noise and is illegal really

So yeah i had all the stuff laying around to do it so i did, i cut the rear cat off and ran it coming straight out the of main cat for a couple days while i had to weld up the pipes and yeah that was way too loud and sounded like crap, The pipe in between the two cats has an o2 sensor on it and isnt exactly round it measures about 3in but a 3in pipe doesnt fit on it. I had to have a 3in ID pipe flared out and hit it on with a mallet so now i have rear cat delete muffler delete 3in all the way back, it sounds good and is loud i wouldnt reccomend someone to do this unless they have a bit of skill with making exhaust because trying to get that pipe to fit on there wasnt easy and doesnt seal well, it leaked alot so i found some exhaust sealent at auto zone it looks like crap but its a $1000 truck so im ok with it. heres some pictures also a video ill post
