JUST got done doing the same thing to a '98 4x4. End cost was about $1100. Believe it or not...it was a very easy swap. Auto trans blew up on Tues. Had all parts on hand from yards/autoparts stores by thurs morn. Swap started thurs night. Driving truck on fri night.

Of course it's a great idea. Automatics are slushboxes and scattermatics imo. lol.

trans, ecu, pedal assy, floor plate, floor plastic cup holder/shift boot holder thingy, clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel, pilot bearing, master cyl w/ resivore and hose, slave cyl, clutch safety switch, shifter arm....that's just about all.

Still figureing out the ecu issues. I know Maurice got a manual trans harness to make everything work right(4x4) with the new manual. We still gotta find that harness for Ausin's truck. He can get it in 4hi, but not 4lo yet....likely due to the computer not knowing if the clutch is in and shifter is in neutral....so we'll be doing that as soon as i find him a manual 4.0 4x4 '98 harness. The ECU would need to be for the same year truck, same motor, same drivetrain(4x4), AND of course manual. BUT...it is running and driving with the '98 4x4 auto ecu...can't seem to make the truck start w/ the '98 4x4 manual ECU...should be cured with the manual trans harness.

I'm calling it the ECU, but i don't know the proper name(ECU/PCM/CPU?).

*confirmed today...

he has full operation of his 4x4 system. YET, still have the OD light showing on the dash. While using the stock 98 Auto trans ECU. I and He forgot about putting the clutch in AND the brake in order to get it into low. lol.
