Good to hear the truck is working out.
Sorry to hear Mal is feeling bad.

If you buy a Fuel Regulator it will come with a gauge so you can adjust the pressure.

Happy New Year !

heyyyy yea im alive. im actually on the site but for some reason never saw the thread. truck is good... ish. I still cant figure out if my wierd symptoms are from a really aggressive tune or the b cam and the ecm is compensating or both. also i still think my rockers are really noisy and i swear i have a sticky valve. every once in a while right after i start driving it will lose power and back fire lightly once or twice then its good to go after that. so yea its running but def ont the way i expected or hoped for..yet

Hey,
Have you run a tune for an 87 octane stock tune ?
Good to see you still working on it.

Tried stiffer valve springs? I'm having my motor guy put a little bit stiffer spring rate in for me. I was told those stock ones are a little to soft for the 1.7's if I planned on hammering down on it any. Also, I may end up running a 1/16" longer pushrod. Sometimes they come up a little short after the heads are torqued down. Just a couple ideas for you to think about and maybe talk with your motor guy about. And also did you get a valve job on the heads? I cant remember...

Watch for Valve Spring Binding… and to get them to work a little quicker get double springs.

The Stk Push Rods may be short for the 1.7 Rockers alone… did you do any work to the heads ?

Wirelessly posted

If I remember correctly Mark swapped back to stock 1.6 Rockers......because he had issues with the 1.7's.

I did infact put the stock 1.6 rockers back on. Stock pushrods. but i DID install the trick flow ford valve spring upgrades. but thats all. im also not very happy with my exhaust. It is way too loud. it was awesome at first but I do want it a little quiter. might have it redone to come out behind the tire. plus i know its a "duh" statement but you can tell its cammed by the way it sounds. want it smoother sounding and not so radical.

Hey,
How this coming along ?
Everything running and all tuned up ?

What exhaust are you running now, the one you found to be too loud.
Do you have full length Tail Pipes, that will help, I ran DynaMax Turbos with Custom bent 1.25” Pipes.
The Turbos on my 88/5.0 ran through full length pipe all the way to the back corner of the bed not sort by the front of the wheel, the only time it really got loud was when my foot turned to lead…

Did you cam it, can’t remember and too lazy to re-read the whole thing ?
1.6s will work OK if aftrmkt, if cam is OEM 1.7s will give a little more low end but there are precautions.
Again, consider extending the tail pipe using the OEM path. Tailpipes out the back or behind the rear wheel sound deeper and less abrasive noise.

Just wondering, so you make up a list of all of the stuff you used, what you took off of the Ex and what you purchased new. I am this >l l< close (that’s real close) to getting started on a V-8 Swap, just a little nervous about the electronics and match up and of course what is needed off of the Ex Parts Vehicle.
I just want to go to the JY buy the parts I need and leave and not go back until the V-8 is in.

The LOPE sound maybe nice but it could mean bad tuning, need of tuneup, and other things… but lets wait until he can get away from the women (and I can’t blame you for not wanting to) but go get the tune up man.

How the power, feels great, RIGHT !
I couldn’t believe my first V-8 Ranger (’88 w/’93 5.0L/Auto) cruise like it was meant to be.
The sound of a V-8 is hard to beat, gotta get it done !

Good Luck on finishing up, and get’r done !

grev,

1. It is cammed. the loudness doesnt bother me all the time, but it sounds sick goin down the road. im sure it will mellow out after its running 100%

2. I got screwed on alot of stuff i ordered so i had alot more figuring and piecing to do. Ideally you want a 99-2001 EXP. thats it. dont get anything from any other years, prefferably 00-01, Some people have just pulled the enigne and left it alone. I broke it down, celaned and painted all parts, replaced all gaskets with a trick flow kit from summit. again not worth it, a crap ton of leftover gaskets that didnt apply. ARP head bolts. used stock rocker arms. Trick flow ford upgrade springs. I polished and ported the heads. and intake to match. EGR delete, gator back belt. intake.

3. It feels great! i love this this. its a hole new truck.

on another note. I also didnt ever hook up the Superlift Calibrator to make my Speedometer work. Could this also have something to do with it not running 100% ?? if the ECM uses the speedometer, MAP sensor, and tach to shift and run most effeciently than the speedometer not workin might be a huge issue as well... .thoughts?

The VSS input is normally used for transmission shift scheduling as optimized by the calibration engineer. Without the VSS, the PCM will use other inputs to keep you moving down the road.
