thanks dirty but most of us already know that. this is a thread for people on THIS forum who are looking to do it and we want to make our own write ups. On RPS they have great information, just not great organized information for the new generation v8 people.

Turnone82, You know you dont have to do every write up for every aspect. Do write ups for the parts you think you confuse or be hard for most people. Also when more and more people do it they can add write ups for other parts as well. Then we can combine all the write ups, that is why the rps guys do with the older information.

We are not talking about special interest groups. The only way this thread will go in the direction of who can do what 'Legally' in thier state. So to be completly honest, D, your post is way off topic.

If you want to be helpful with emissions how bout explains to them what can be done legally. I am in the process of trying to find out information on different states.

Thanks

D thats not exactly what i meant when i made that post. i dont care about emissions because my truck for the most part will be a trailer queen. i hunt, fish, and go sit in the woods just to watch nature as well im all for the emission testing and all but i dont care about them on my ranger since it will be on the trailer most of the time.

greg
i heard at one time (dont know how true it is) but if you use a 302 doesnt matter what year motor as long as the emissions stuff that came on the ranger was there on the 302 then you were in good shape.

as far as the x 302 from what ive read just swap the motor mounts slide in the motor and then splice some in the harness and comp. i dont know any details on the swap but thats the jist of it.

D. How I see it is to emissions is this.

The most important thing to people is whether they can get past emissions without a very high risk of being caught.

For example, in my city there are no I/M laws (for emissions) but up north where they have pollution there are laws. So should I comply to the overall I/M laws which aren't required in my city but are required at a state level and everywhere else in the state? No. My vehicle with a 302 doesn't pollute more than an explorer with a 302. It's not like I just hooked up a coal burning engine to my truck and am trying to use it.

Simply, the 302 in my truck wouldn't be hurting any worse than most other trucks on the road.

As to EFI vs. carbed? I personally like EFI for the many benefits but if Joe Schmoe wants to do carbed I personally don't see it hurting much. Let's say dirty is gonna run his 302 carbed. Do you think he's going to buy a brand new 302 carberatur? Well, possibly...but most likely he's going to get a carbed 302. Off of a running car too. So it's not like he *added to emissions* he simply moved the pollution from one vehicle to another.

1) I am planning the 5.0L EFI swap on my 84' Ranger if someone wants to give me to hard of a time with emissions I'll just reinstall the well worn 2.8L V6 W/ Holley 390CFM double-pumper, heads back dual exhaust (sans cats) that runs like crap and then let them sniff my exhaust (and loose a few more brain cells, not like they'll miss them). Then they will be begging me to put the 5.0 back in.
2) I don't care who he thinks he is ain't anybody gonna send my truck to the crusher.
3) Here in GA we have no real emissions testing, I have heard that they do a little in Atlanta but I'm not sure what the deal is there. I am going to check to see what our state code says, and will post it here when I find something.

Do the V8 swap in your 99. You will be much happier and it will be just as easy, if not easier. Pick up an explorer V8 wreck for $1000 and you are all set!

It ain't hapening in the 99' it alredy has the 4.0 (which I think is big enough for a daily driver, if not to big), I am going to get a Bama Chip for it eventually, and I alredy have enough to fix on it, becides I don't know how long I'll keep it. Actually I'll be hapier with it in the 84' it was my first vehicle, it has ben in my family aslong as I have, I wanted since I thaught about driving, I much prefer the way the 1st gens look, and I will not sell it. I have been contemplating a swap in this truck since I have had it, my dad also thaught about it a few times, and my cousin in the brief time he had it thaught it would be cool to do.

I have alredy got L&L motor mounts, got them from a friend for a real good price, so I'll probably get their headers also. Don't know where the radiator and fan will come from, I know that I want to have one that fits under the radiator support and then will run an electric fan.

and i am not bullsh*ting. if for the fact that my truck wasnt my DD and i had something else to drive while it was down this thing under the ford box that is hiding in the corner of my garage would be in my truck as i type. if i keep my truck when i get a new vehical in a few year this will find its new home resting between my lovely silver fenders....

I already have almost all the parts to finish it. it needs the cylinders rebored and i need to buy a simple rebuild kit and a new EFI intake manifold. also looking into a t-5 trans....thinking of getting a whole new brain box for it also...

You might get away with it. Who knows. It is still against federal law. Right next to tampering with the emissions equipment.

Not in my opinion and in many of the framers of this country as well. Federal law under the Constitution has no right to hand out laws for emissions, therefore the Constituion says any powers not hereby mentioned are reserved to the people or states. 302 going in my truck regardless. and yah I Will get away with it

Wow lots of stuff going on here. As for engine versus year of truck the engine isn't the factor they are really looking for but the emissions components and a PCM with the latest calibration. My '98 has a '93 Mustang block, Summit racing guts, 2000 Explorer dressing and a '99 PCM. I also have a 3 stage cat on both banks of my Y Pipe plus a honking big Magnaflow muffler. My truck would pass a sniffer test no problem.

D, you need to speak with tony on RPS. He's in New York as well and passed with his wicked setup. He can be a great source of information.

Yo Brian buddy you got a transmission you want to send me, oh come on you know you don't want that 3550.

Do you have pics of the install of that thing, and the slave cylinder setup. Any info on how to go about installing one, and where to get one for a good price. I am planning to go back to 5-speed with one of those in a few years.

Yeah goto my photos page at photos.yahoo.com/brianb28. Look under the total performance folder. I may have some pic of it in other folders as well so check them all out.

If you need more pictures let me know.
