New antenna mod thought of by me

i was bored at work so i made an XM antenna into a FM antenna

Strip the rubber casing off and expose the wires. All the wires are ground. Now in the center of the wire there is a plastic tube with a positive wire in it. Strip the tube back and theres your positive. Take a radio antenna tip and solder the positive into the middle hole of the tip. Next solder the negative wires to the inside of the tip. Put the tip on run your antenna and now you have an antenna that is pretty slick lookin and not noticeable. Damn im good

If it has the same range or better I would do this mod today. I have actually been things of getting a BMW antenna and "making" it fit on a Ranger the antenna i had in mind is pictured below. Thoughts?

given what I understand about radio, I can't imagine that this would have any better reception than just running a few lenghts of wire around your truck, maybe underneath the bedrails. A vertical member is an essential part of a traditional radio antenna.

i think the bmw fin has too much of a curve on it.. i was looking at my friend's antenna on the back of his dad's 05' 745, and it looked like it had a curve in the base. maybe not though.

the bmw antenna is guaranteed fiber optic antenna i would imagine. You may be able find the old sony XM antennas they looked identical to the shark fin antenna on bmws
