01 3.0 to 06 4.0 swap question

I have an 01 Ranger that the engine met an untimely end when some debris on the highway ruptured the bottom of my radiator and I didn't notice until I heard TAP TAP TAP TAP and lost power and couldn't spin the engine over with a breaker bar until a week later... Anyways... I also have a 2006 Explorer 4x4 with a bad 5R55S transmission and I would like to take the good 4.0 out of it and drop it into my Ranger if the transmission will bolt up. Really all advice on this will be appreciated. Thanks - Scott

That won't work, the 3.0 and 4.0 have different bellhousing sizes and bolt patterns.

You'll need a to put a 3.0 back into the 01.

Need to find a 2001 or 2002 3.0l to replace blown engine, for direct fit

1999 thru 2008 3.0l will also work if you swap lower and upper intakes from your 2001 3.0l to the "other 3.0l" its so all the wires will plug back in
(heads up, 2004-2006 3.0ls could have bad valve seats, not 100%, just could)

Check out: https://www.car-part.com/

Good place to look for used parts LOCALLY, use your zipcode

A 302/5.0l V8 swap is what you would do if you want to change engine size on the 2001, same cost and work as swapping in a 4.0l, but much better results

That was going to be my next question. Since the 4l swap won't work, what all do I need to do to go all in and drop a 5.0 in it? That was actually my whole plan to begin with, but it ended up becoming my daily driver before I got the chance, so it went on the back burner

Article here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...0-ford-ranger/

Most try to find a 1996-2001 Explorer V8 with rusted out or damaged body, and buy the whole vehicle
That way you get engine, transmission, computer and engine wiring harness, also MAF, air cleaner, tube and exhaust

Explorer 5.0l has the lower intake that fits under Ranger hood

Google: Ford Ranger V8 swap
Loads of info on this one
