Could you use the output housing from an electric transfer case and fab up a mounting bracket?

I didn't want to spend the $300 on just that piece. lol. I did my entire tcase swap with complete 02-03 Fx4 L2 inside crap around the shifters for a whopping $0.00 out of my pocket. lol. I love junkyards and finding junkyard gems. lol.

No.

Can you use an older tailhousing and retrofit the speed sensor to the transmission?
Maybe.

there's a guy building a 4.0L SOHC/M5odR1hd in a BroncoII over at TRS that made a really nice looking bolt-on bracket for the linkage to bolt to. I never thought of it. I posted it over in one of MossyOak's threads. See if I can't find it.

TRS is down right now, but when it's up, I'll post his pics here for ya. It's a neat idea that I honestly never thought of.
Here's the truck's build thread....

Threw the X-case on the tranny as a mock up to make sure everything would work correctly, and all looked good. Tomorrow Im going to throw the X-case in the solvent tank and clean it up a bit more. Also hopefully I can get my hands on some ABS and fill the large hole in my heater box.

Maybe Ill be able to get this engine in permanently this week, I guess Ill cross my fingers.

Ok, so here's another question: Could I swap in a pre-98 manual transmission, transfer case, and tailhousing on a '98+ truck without comparability problems?

Only if the truck is not a 4.0, and only if the truck is 98-00, or 01+ if you don't want a working speedometer on your dash. I said only if not 4.0 because SOHC transmissions DO fit OHV 4.0's, but OHV trans do not bolt to the SOHC. There's one bolt hole difference...but the SOHC trans have both hole in their bellhousings.

Hope I anwered that correctly.

Oh...and that 02-03 tailhousing, is not being produced anymore. Only option is the wrecking yards.

So when they changed the speedometer location they also changed it's output so that a speedo in the old location will not properly communicate with the '01+ ECU?

For my next question I'll just start another thread.

I honestly don't know. I think I've seen somewhere where someone was going to convert to 4x4, lengthen the speedo wires, and have the speedo in a different location? idk though.

But we got one serious, horrible issue.

NO FREAKIN CUPHOLDERS!!!!

to do:
Get rid of hole in the floor
Get new radio bezel
Get a stock shift **** for the transmission
Shift boots (not the offset kind... they seem to be next to each other)
2nd lil bolt on the tailhousing. Need it!
FRONT DRIVESHAFT
oh and...

Get the 4hi/lo lights to stop blinking at me!!!!

"I know you don't think your t-case is there, shut-up brittney!"

*punches truck*
