5r55e compatibility?

I have a 2002 ranger edge 4.0l 4x4. I’m trying to determine what other year rangers or mazdas are compatible with my 5r55e. I guess the fact that the speed sensors on my trans. Are located at the back and the middle of the trans. Is making it hard to find. Will a 5r55e with the speed sensors located at the front and back of the trans work?

Welcome to the forum

No, you need the 2001-2011 5R55E they have the ISS(in the middle) and the OSS at the rear

The 1997-2000 5R55E won't work for you, the front sensor on these was actually never used, but you need the middle one for 2001 and up computers

Also needs to be from/for a 4x4, 2WD can't be converted

The 2001-2010 Mazda B4000(4.0l) 4x4 used the same 5R55E

Picture here of the trans you need: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pr...e4WApjsoponhoQ

Has the two sensors and a 4x4 tail shaft you need

the 2001-2011 explorers

Did the explorers from 2001-2011 come with the same 5r55e?

Explorer trans cont’d

I found an 2002 explorer 4.0l 4x4 but when I looked underneath it looked like the sensors were front and back of trans. Not middle and back. But I may have been mistaken it was a bit hard to see.

No, Explorer used the older style from 1997-2001 then switched to the 5R55W or S in 2002, not sure if they would work with Ranger computer, but I would lean towards no they won't

Try looking on car-part here: http://www.car-part.com/

What is wrong with your transmission, is a rebuild out of the question?
