Check engine light on after taking out of 4x4

Just as the title says. I had my truck in 4x4 low for a short amount of time to get off a gravel road. I changed it back to 2 wheel drive and my truck has a slightly large clunk. A few moments later my check engine light was turned on and has been on for a few days now. Does anybody know why my check engine light turned on and if it is something I should be concerned about? Thanks,
- Graham

Welcome to the forum

What YEAR Ranger?
Manual or automatic trans?

CEL(check engine light) comes on because computer has set one, or more, OBD codes because it sees or saw a problem in a system

It could be a "Please exit the vehicle, because its about to EXPLODE" code, usually a flashing CEL for this one
or a "small air leak in gas tank vapor system was detected" code, not a big deal

If you have a 1996 or up Ranger then any auto parts store will get the codes for you for free, do NOT buy anything from them at that time, post the code or codes here, the EXACT Code, so write it/them down, "I think it was.........." is of no valve, read on for why that is

Here is a list of those codes: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...II_codes.shtml

About 1,000+
And why "guessing" what code it might be would be pointless
