Cruise Control Problems
Cruise Control Problems
Hey everyone!
I have a 2002 ford ranger, 2wd, v6, manual transmission.
When I first got the truck many years ago the cruise control buttons were smashed and useless, so a couple years ago I got the money and tools to replace them. Sadly this didn't work as only the "On and Off" buttons worked and were illuminated.
I then took my truck to a mechanic and had them diagnose the issue. According to this mechanic, I likely needed to replace my clockspring.
I finally got the replacement clockspring and made the repair today; however, I'm still having the same problem: the "On and Off" side is illuminated and works, but the "Rsm, Accel Set, Coast" buttons are not illuminated and do not work.
I attempted to run the self diagnosis, but it doesn't work since I can't press the RSM, coast, and accel set buttons.
Any thoughts on what the problem is or what I should check for?

2002 Cruise wiring below
Do the Horn buttons works, if not check fuse 35 cab fuse box
That powers the cruise buttons, not the lights, just the buttons
Horn and the lights need a good ground on the clockspring to work
Cruise only uses 2 wires on the clockspring(assuming horn works)
Wires 1 and 4
ON/OFF is a toggle switch button, as is Resume button and Coast button, Set/accelerate is a momentary button, have to press and hold to accelerate or press once to set
You can test the buttons with OHM meter, on/off, coast/resume, set/accel, the resistors are IN the buttons
And lights, 12v lights should read about 1.5 ohms if not burned out
Yellow/green wire should have 12v all the time, horn has full time power
Light blue/red wire only has 12v with Light switch on and dimmer turned up
As always unhook battery FIRST, wait 15min, then unplug Airbag, THEN you can hook battery back up for testing

Hey Ron!
The horn works fine, but I may give the fuses a check just to be sure.
I guess I can try to take my multi-meter to it and see if it's just that the buttons I bought were lemons out of the box. I'm not very familiar with using my multi-meter, so I guess this is an opportunity to learn.
I'll report back when I get around to testing this out.
