Explorer to ranger swap.

Explorer to ranger swap.
Hello, I have a 2001 Ford ranger 3.0 v6 2 wheel drive. I’m wanting to swap in a 5.0 v8 from a explorer since I’ve heard and read that they are almost a direct swap. Also wanting to convert the ranger to 4x4 using the donor explorer drive train and front suspension. This is my first swap and big project, Idk if it is even possible. Any help tips and advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum
Yes, a BIG project
Front frames are either 2WD or 4x4, so there are 2 different frames, a 4x4 truck starts off at the factory as a 4x4, its never a "bolt on option", from any car maker
You can box the front part of a 2WD frame to make it strong enough and weld on brackets for the front axle, the brackets are all about the measuring, and measuring, and did I mention measuring, lol
Because you NEED 4-wheel alignment, period
Yes, the Ford 302/5.0l OHV was a narrow V8, 19" wide, so fits in a Ranger engine bay, with correct motor mounts and exhaust
You need a 5.0l transmission.transfer case, Ranger trans won't work
Also drive shafts
5.0l computer and wiring harness if you want fuel injection
All is doable, for sure, just a BIG project, lol
1996 to 2001 are the Explorer V8s that work in Rangers

will the donor explorer transmission mount up or even fit in the ranger?
