Ford 8.8 4.10 diff question

So upon inspecting my diff I found the spider gears to be somewhat chewed. Im looking to replace them now. It's mainly the two smaller ones so I'd rather get them from a junkyard. I was looking at the rear axle codes for explorers and rangers. I didn't find anything that was an exact 8.8 4.10 diff. I found several 8.8s but they were different ratio. Do the spider gears directly correlate to the ratio of the drive? Meaning can I stick a 3.75 inthere as long as it's an 8.8? Or should I keep looking.

Ive also been looking online and cant find something that is vehicle specific. Some just list the 8.8 along with the spline count but say only for open differential. I have the limited slip. Vehicle is a 4x4 2002 ranger 4.0.

The ratio is just the Ring and Pinion gear set, so other parts are interchangeable for the same axles

Explorers had 31-spline, all rangers 28-spline, except for torsen equipped rangers which were also 31-spline

Putting in used spider gears is a BAD idea. The gears wear together as a set. Putting gears in that haven't worn in together isn't going to net you anything but noise and more wear. Buy a whole new differential and do it right. I'l lbet the cross pin is loose in the differential too. I just went through this with the 8.8 in my 96 E150. I replaced the whole diff with a new trac-loc unit.

The cross pin is not loose. I couldnt find any 4.10 differentials at the junkyard, I found plenty of 3.75s and other ones that still have an 8.8 diff. I also looked at a new aftermarket kit from USA standard gear. It is for a 31 spline 8.8 diff but it's not for a limited slip. The seller told me they won't work with a limited slip diff. To me, it looks like they would so I'm unsure.

I don't know if Ron misunderstood my post but he is saying they will fit ok? The only thing that I can't swap are the ring and pinion. I'm not looking to swap the larger gears that have the splines on them, just the little ones. Does that mean I can take the smaller ones from say, a 28spline diff? Or do I still need to look specifically for the 31spline diff even though I'm not going to use the splined set.

https://imgur.com/a/Y3UG1. As you can see they're pretty fucked. At this point the noise isnt the issue rather than having the vehicle able to move on its own. I don't want to throw those back in the truck so I'd rather get used ones. I'd rather throw used ones in there that are in better condition than these while I figure out where I can just find a whole axle. I called a shop and they were telling me it's cheaper to just replace the entire differential than to try and rebuild what I've got since it's a limited slip.

That is why I made this post. I couldnt find any 4.10 differentials at the junkyard, I found plenty of 3.75s and other ones that still have an 8.8 diff. I can't open those pics on my tablet, but if theyre chewed as you say, the side gears will be worn too, no sense putting any gears in and hoping they' ll work with the side gears you have now. That's just insane to think they'll last more than a few hundred miles. I bought a new Ford Racing Tracloc diff from Summit two months ago for $260. They also listed another brand, already assembled with ring gear for maybe a hundred or two more
