hi wished i knew more about these things like yall do ,,,so i have a 99 mazda 4x4 3.0 ok trans went out so i bought what was supposed to have been same tranny well i got a 3.0 2wd tranny is there anyway of making it work in my truck im already out $300 bucks i dont really have the funds to buy another thanks in advance

You have an M5OD-R1(M5R1) manual transmission used from 1988 thru 2011 in Rangers and Mazda B-series(1994 and up)
These M5R1s are engine specific, i.e. a 2.3l trans won't fit on 3.0l or 4.0l engine, and visa versa for all 3, no conversion possible

And any transmission is drive specific of any year or model, manual or automatic, a 2WD trans can't be used in a 4WD and visa versa


You can disassemble the 4WD trans to remove tail shaft housing and tail shaft, requires a bit of work

Then do the same on 2WD trans

Re-install the 4WD tail shaft and hosing on the 2WD trans, and now its a 4WD trans

Assuming the 2WD trans is correct for YOUR ENGINE size

Then you can get an idea of what is required to remove and swap tail shafts
