dumb question, whats the best 4x4 ranger to own?

im in the market for a 4x4 truck and i wanna know whats the best one to own. i dont care so much about power i already have a jeep that getts shyt for gas milage with gobbs of torque. i want a 2.3l 5speed 4x4 none have a awd transfer case? i like awd over part time my jeep has both i just leave it in fulltime its great for wet roads, i can drive like a retard and not get sideways when its rainin, but i hate my gas milage and i need a truck. im a tech and my tool box doesnt fit in my jeep now days so i need a truck. actually i plan on trading one of my cars, i got too many anyways. so i just wanted to see whats up. i know the autos suck bad i had a ranger before with that weak mustang 4 banger tranny a4lde or whatever it was, complete junk. i prefer the 93 plus, i want gas milage, i dont plan on towing maybe some light off road for the dirt bikes but i want better gas milage than my jeep

Not even sure if there is a 4 banger in 4x4.
3.0L doesn’t get great milage but OK, even w/33s and no gears.
5 sp makes a little difference.
The best Ranger, IMHO, would be the 2003 FX4, LvL II but don’t hold your breath for good mpg.

I like the newer 4wd IFS.

I think you might be able to find a mid 90s 4banger 4wd but those were more common in 90-92 I believe.

i have a 1989 4x4 ranger with the 2.3l. i hate it, 70 mph downhill with a back wind, and im only getting 15 mpg with it too. i think there was a reason behind ford not offering the 4 banger with 4x4 unless you custom ordered it
