Icon2 Fuse/Relay panel under hood doesn't match manual?

Super confused and hope this isn't a stupid thing to ask... For whatever reason I was poking around the under hood fuse/relay panel and then looking at the manual and it appears that I am missing stuff. Which is weird because my truck runs but there are things missing like the fuel pump relay?

I have taken some pictures.
I also numbered a couple things according to the picture of the manual.

Is this normal??

According to the manual relay 45A/B are wiper hi/low and wiper park/run
I have those. but if you look beside it there are two more relays

46A states it's not used yet the picture shows an outline of a relay, and I have a relay there... then below it 46B is the front washer pump.

I have question marks on those because if you look to the right of the picture I have two larger relays which don't match up to the diagram at all??

It appears 47A/B and 48A/B should be smaller relays. but it doesn't appear to match anything.

49 Relay on the manual shows the Full Starter but in my panel I don't have that?

Then to the right of the manual 48A/B show the smaller replays of Fog lamps and Fog lamp relay. My truck didn't have that via the factory so I get why those aren't there.

50A/B should be in the far right corner and smaller relays. 50B states fuel pump. Yet I don't have that at all? How could I not have a fuel pump relay? Seems odd as hell to me?

Another question is fuse 43. It's bright red and has a picture of 6.9 ohms? What is this? The manual shows that 43 is not used so should I remove that.

Totally confused and hopefully someone can shed some light. I hope these aren't stupid questions but it just seems really odd that the manual isn't lining up with the truck?
Any more pictures that are requested just let me know and I'll go out and snap some more pictures for clarity...etc.
2001 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3L

Thanks,
-Nigel

2001 was transition year for Rangers with 4cyl engines
First part of 2001 had the 2.5l Lima engines
Second part had 2.3l Duratec engines, and also PATS anti-theft system

I would assume there would be different 2001 manuals as well since these were completely different systems.

You have the 2.3l Duratec so I would see if you can find, or look at, a 2002 Ranger manual, 2002 was same engine/electrics for the full year

Otherwise I can't explain why there would be a difference

That's so crazy. My manual states 2001. Yet when I did more research online to find the fuse panel I found one that matches mine... so crazy that ford provided the wrong users manual with my truck...lol

Does anyone know what that resistor fuse does?

Are you the original owner of the truck?

Whats the context of "resistor fuse", there is an ABS Resistor in engine fuse box, it isn't a fuse but plugs in like a fuse

A resistor limits current in a circuit, basically changes too much electricity to heat
A fuse prevents excess current in a circuit, doesn't limit current just heats up then melts/separates stopping electrical flow

So they are two different things with different purposes

There are "fused resistors" they are in essence a slow blow fuse, they can take a bit of over current before "blowing", so longer toleration of heating up before melting/separating
"resistor fuse" could work for that, lol, "a rose by any other name.............."

Fusible Links could be called "resistor fuse", its a smaller gauge wire hooked to larger gauge, so acts as a resistor of sorts, and is made to melt/separate without danger of fire or short, so a fuse

The resistor in the Distribution Box is part of the circuitry of the Coolant Temperature Gauge in 2001~2003MY 2.3L Rangers. It allows the PCM to take over control of the gauge during Fail-Safe Cooling.

In the event of an impending overheating condition as indicated by a high reading from the Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor, the PCM can initiate the Fail-Safe Cooling strategy. To alert the driver that there is a problem, the PCM commands the Coolant Temp Gauge into the hot zone which should also illuminate the "Check Gage" light. As overheating continues, the PCM can attempt to control it by varying the number of disabled fuel injectors and alternating the positions of the disabled injectors/cylinders. This pumps air (w/o fuel) through the engine to help cool the disabled cylinders with the goal of maintaining an acceptable engine temperature. Although FSC obviously reduces power, it has the potential to allow the vehicle to be driven a limited distance to a place of safety or, possibly, to a repair facility.

2001MY 2.5 and 2001~2003MY V6's do not have that resistor because they do not have the Fail-Safe Cooling feature.
