GAS....lets hear what everyone has to say!
You can't just deduct that tax...that's what's paying for the road your vehicle is driving on...and the gas tax hasn't risen nationally in a loooooong time. The reason gas is getting so expensive is because the Dollar is so weak globally, all the foreign investors are buying up oil and making a steal on it.
Here are 2 good articles from CNN.com

Enlighten yourselves. Personally I believe it may not have been such a good idea to throw Ethanol into the mix.
3.45 on my way home today. sure i could get a focus, but it wont pull my 6x9 trailer or do other things my ranger is around for. and here we are militarilly occupiing a oil-producing country. we should start filling aircraft carriers and bring that back home-retribution!

$.55 ![Dazed[1]](https://www.ranger-forums.com/rf/forum2/images/smilies/dazed[1].gif)
You must be another old guy. Think it was like $.27-.28 per gallon when I started driving. I could fill the 26 gal tank on my Oldsmobile for about $7. Of course if you smoked back then you also only paid $.19-.20 for a pack of cigarettes.
Now they are what, $4.00 or so a pack? However I think minimum wage was like $.55 or $.60 per hour. If you had a job that paid $6K per year or more you were in high cotton.

Lemme think.. REGULAR or ' leaded ' gas was about 60cents a gallon. My Camaro took 22gallons (?). I remember ' filling up ' with the gas from the WRONG side of the pump and had to add countless bottles of additives to it from all the knocking.
Smokes are now averaging 5$/pack across the States.
You have a pair of decades on me

Actually, Canada is Smart with their gas..
Just need to get the Block Quebec out of the mix and open up Alberta/Edmonton more. It will drop your prices in half!
The U.S. COULD do something similar, but its another ' war ' and the green people ( eco-terrorists ) have a stranglehold on getting anything done
Yeah, seems there's talk of gas shortages in the Prairies and price hikes all over.
I'm just gonna sit back and see what happens. Unfortunately the price keeps going up and there is nothing we can do but just pay. High prices fuel has just become another fact of everyday regular life.

About a mile from my present home, an Ethanol facility is going online. Its located next to a railway that wasn't used for quite a while. The Railway used to belong to Conrail.
The whole venture is PRIVATE INDUSTRY. The taxpayers have little to do with it.
Theres billions spent in subsidies every year to farmers whom don't grow crops. I believe its called ' crop rotation ' or something ( I don't know all the facts on that aspect of it, I'm not a farmer ). Theres many areas of NYS that are rich in minerals and fertile and prime for growing.
Its not weather or not gas is a better energy source then ethanol. Its not which yields better results per dollar or that idiotic and incorrect statement of ' fuel economy ', its having control of its costs and creation.
If the sandmen state tomorrow they are going to charge 150$ a barrel of oil, thats it. Thats what YOU and I would pay. Like it or not, its a done deal.
With having our own source of energy, there could be a revolt or outcry that would have to be addressed.
A while back, NHBubba_revisited stated ' like it or not , someday you will be forced off gas ', he was VERY correct in saying such. Oil supplies WILL run-out sometime and what will replace it then?
THAT is a realistic model to look at.
Your looking at TODAY and nothing else. DO you plan on retiring in 40 years? 30? 20? Your looking at 300$/barrel oil as those supplies are going to dwindle more and more each year as China is now growing by leaps and bounds and consuming more oil then the US will very soon ( if they haven't already! ).
The more we do to get out of the same markets they have a demand for, the better.
i just want a consistent price, if ethanol will bring that then im ready for it.
last week it was 2.99 a gallon at home, now its 3.49, here in South Carolina its 3.15.
Over a 50 cent swing in less than a week, wtf... how can anyone budget on a change like that in a weeks time.

It's now $3.40 here for the cheap stations. A little less and a little more depending on what town your in.
Guys here is some food for thought.
We (in America) live in a country where it's a "free market". I think too often times we forget that fact. Or we don't even understand what it means to be a part of such a culture.
Years ago after being poor for so long.. I decided to use this free market way of living to **my advantage**. I was making $3.15 per hour (minimum wage at the time) at a dead end job and was simply not making ends meet. I decided that this is no way to live and that I was better than this. It took me a good ten years of hard work and getting some additional education besides just being a HS graduate. Again it took YEARS of HARD WORK, but now things like gas prices are something that have very little effect on me.
Yeah it's a pain to deal with when your the one struggling in the trenches (so to speak). So.. a guy can do one of two things about it. 1) Either complain about it and keep on struggling. 2) Or change the way you think about this free market country we live in. This is a God blessed nation... accept the gift and use it to better yourself. It's not easy... but its doable for most if only effort is put into the right aspects of life & skills.

Rich

87 octane is running about $3.20 a gallon here. nothing makes me happier than pumping about $55.00 in my ranger. I can't wait until it hits $5.00 a gal, won't that be frickin' awesome?! Why stop there, why not go on to $6.00 a gal. that would be SWEET! 70 bucks to fill up my ranger ....WTF!
I walk to work, it't not even half a mile. School is 16 miles round trip. I'm glad I only have to fill up once every 2-3 weeks. Usually it's every 2 weeks because of errands and stuff. I'm having to cut back on all my wheeling trips which stinks. I don't have to but I have a limit on how much I spend and how much I save.

We cannot dictate to other nations to NOT use oil. We cannot tell them they need to use less so we can have more.
OPEC and other entities couldn't care less about anyones budget. They have a product and are tired of loosing revenues ( and did for MANY years ) to people complaining.
They could have made billions in profits for so many years, they finally just came around to doing it.
What I would like to see is what all these peace lovers would do when those sand people/nations decided to say ' no exports to the US/Canada at all! ' and it hits 10$ a gallon the same moment.
Wake up people. You don't HAVE to buy gasoline. Horses are still legal in many parts of the country and so are bicycles.

Ask Jimmy Carter and those whom lived in the 70's about it. Waiting in lines for hours just to get 5 gallons at stupid prices.
Yeah, I remember when I turned 16 in 1995, gas was under $0.50/L.....I remember *****ing when it reached $.55/L because filling my 85 Olds Cutlass was getting expensive.....especially with the gas sucking engine under the hood.
Now fuel is $1.08/L. Doubled over the last 13 years.
Yeah, seems there's talk of gas shortages in the Prairies and price hikes all over.

One thing that pis*es me off is when they switched from Gallons to Liters here. Oh we fine Canucks sure took it up the ol'pooper then.
With keeping the $1 at par, 1 US Gal = 4.546 L. So with the fuel today being $1.08/L........that makes us paying $4.90/Gal here.
Yep, even when it was steady around $.90/L a few weeks ago.....that's still $4.09/Gal. I agree w/ D in saying, "Silly Canadians." LOL

You've gotta also factor in that Canadian money was worth alot less compared to the US dollar 13 years ago, it's running neck and neck with our bologna green backs now. You can't b1tch too much.
How about a different kind of gas?
http://www.flixxy.com/zero-pollution-automobile.htm
I used to buy gas for 19 cents a gallon, cigs cost 20 cents a pack [19 actually] and had a penny taped to them in the gas stations cig machine
I can even remember price wars at the pumps. Those days will never return.
