Motor and trany swap
Motor and trany swap
Have a 2000 ranger 3.0 v6 2wd ranger with a dead motor. Bought a 2002 motor and trany 3.0 v6 and installed it. Everything seems to be ok except the transmission will not shift with the 2000 computer still installed. I did not get the 02 computer that would have matched. Bought the right computer on line for the 02 motor and trany. Ford dealership could not sink my old keys to the new motor and trany. The Pat's module and plugs are not compatible between the 00 and 02.
2 Questions:
Can the Pat's system be completely by passed?
is there any other remedy to make my transmission shift. (The trany is fine. I can shift it manually into second and then drive 40mph but that's it)

No, no way to by-pass PATS, you can have the PATS deleted from a computer, most "tuners" can do that, no I don't know any
The 2000 4R44E transmission and 2002 5R44E transmission are the same mechanically and have the same solenoids, and same wiring to computer
The 2002 has 2 extra external sensors that are not needed, and don't hurt anything
So the 2000 3.0l automatic computer can for sure run the 2002 transmission, has been done many times before, not a guess
You WANT to use the 2000 computer and wiring, NOT the 2002 computer and wiring
If transmission is not shifting into 2nd, 3rd, OD then its a transmission issue
If its not shifting into 1st or reverse then front pump was broken on install
2000 Ranger used PATS B so has a PATS module above glove box
2002 used PATS E and no module, so 2000 wiring won't work with 2002 computer as far as PATS unless you do some rewiring
There would also be computer speedometer issue
Which is why its best to stay with 2000 wiring and 2000 computer
