Throttle stays wide open

Throttle stays wide open
I have a 96, 2.3l, 5 speed ranger that has a throttle issue. Once i start it up and drive for a few minutes and reach past 2nd gear the throttle seems to stick and stays stuck even when the clutch is released. I try to rev it a couple times to see if it will stop but it stays wide open. The only way im able to make it stop is by shutting it off and restarting it. Its occuring more often now. Hopefully somebody knows a way to fix this?? Thanks

Are you sure you mean it stay wide open? That means full throttle and you would not be able to drive it.
I am guessing the rpms are hanging at something well under 3,000 rpm. This is probably due to the throttle bypass valve that controls the idle. They can get sticky and hang. They can be cleaned sometimes but replacement is a better solution if you don't know what you are doing. There are other things that can cause it and you need to go through a diagnostics to determine the cause.

Yeah so it stays at high RPM just enough that as im driving at lets say 50mph i can let off the pedal and it stays at a constant speed but also when im at a stop and have the truck in neutral, it sounds and acts like its at full throttle. Ill check out what youre talking about today so hopefully that whats up with it! Thanks for the help!
