Always been curious what this is, the light has never come on. Any ideas? It’s an 03 4.0L ranger from Canada, 2WD.

Not a factory light, so previous owner added it

Hard to say what it was for, if you ever dig into the dash follow the wires for that light

Could have been for an alarm system, 2003 Ranger has PATS which is a passive alarm, no lights or horn, so some add an active alarm system

I have a similar lamp on the top of my steering column in my Mazda B2300 2WD.... I assume its some kind of alarm system, but I have no idea if it works. Once in a while it will blink, and sometimes when i turn the truck off, i get a couple of loud "bleeps" like some kind of alarm engaging. One day I will follow the wiring back through the dash......

+1 for an after-market alarm install.

Everybody that's replied is correct, it's an alarm indicator light. That's a very old style lol, but if you follow the two wires coming out the back of it, it should lead to the control module if they left it in. But..... alot of people installed tiny indicator lights to remind them something was left on. Could just be that too. Have fun on a rainy day and see where it goes. You may get lucky and find a functional alarm system and can just order the fob for it.
