Gas smell on a full tank

The ranger I am getting sets off the smell of gas fumes when the tank is full. I know this might sound dumb, but could it be something besides the filler tube. I have not played with it enough to find out if the smell is there at any other level of gas in the tank.

9 out of 10 times it's the filler tube. I'd unbolt the bed and move it (not remove it completely) and take a look and see. It's quite a common problem.

If its outside it could be the fuel cap venting too much.
