1998 ranger 4x4
I have a 1998 ranger that has a bad motor 3.0 I bought for my teenage son. Heads are cracked. Just looking at getting a new used motor for it. Found a 2001 FFV 3.0 motor with 90,000 miles on it. Guy says it ran great, truck was totaled so he pulled it. Can I put that in my 1998 ranger without much difficulty? Realize I will have to use the old injectors from the 98 but is there more to it? Not looking to spend a ton of money of I don't need to. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum
Yes, you can use any year 3.0l Vulcan
Yes, swap 1998 intake with injectors to the replacement motor, to match 1998 gas only computer, but also to match all the intake manifold connectors and fuel line
Sellers ALWAYS say "it ran great before we pulled it", lol, so grain of salt
A sudden stop(accident) while engine and trans are running can cause internal damage to either, inertia is a pain
Put a label in engine bay denoting the year of the replacement engine, internal parts do have differences
3.0l Rebuild article here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech/ford-3-0l-build/
Same engine on the outside 1986 thru 2008
Look closely at the metal coolant Elbows on the front of engine for rust
Also look at the timing chain cover gasket edges, water pump passages go thru this cover and can leak coolant, PITA to change gasket with engine in the vehicle
Replace the rear main seal, on any engine, anytime you have access to it
If its an automatic and you have never mated an engine to an automatic make SURE you read up on how to do that, or you will BREAK the trans, full rebuild required $$$
