Normal voltage at battery is 13.5v to 14.8v engine running, is that what you saw?

12.3v to 12.8v is engine OFF voltage at battery, so if you saw that with engine running then alternator is not working/plugged in

Make sure the 2 or 3 wire connector on alternator is plugged in and tight.

Battery Light on means alternator is a Ground, and is not producing above 12volts

voltage rectifier has likely failed

battery light indicates that the alternator is not producing any amperage

no voltage does not trigger the dash light to illuminate only amperage does
