KC lights dont work

My lights dont work anymore.

I was thinking about moving them.

You know how on the back of the light switch there are two intentions were you place your screws to keep the switch in place. Well I had a normal screw driver and I was unscrewing them to get the switch loose. After I did that the lights stoped working.

What could I have messed up. Could I have blown something or what. I checked the only fuse I know of by the battery.

Please help!!! I hate not having them.

I was waiting for Stone to chime in. He is the KC light expert. LOL

The relay is the part that hooks up to the actual lights and the wires coming from the light switch etc...?

If you have a test light or VOM back probe the relay terminals. with everything off you should only have power at Term. 30. With the switch on you should have power at term. 30, 87, and 85 or 86 (either 85 is power from switch or 86 will be, the other will be to ground). To do a quick check jump terminals 30 and 87 at the relay and the lights should come on. If that works try jumping 12V to the control terminal of the relay. Be careful one is ground. Make sure you jump the one from your switch to 12V. Again the lights should come on. If not the relay is bad and needs to be replaced.

you can also hear the relay switch on if it is good.

Have somebody flip the switch while you are next to the relay and if it is working you will hear a click

As dumb as it sounds, check your ground connection. My aux lights went dead last fall and I never got around to doing anything until last weekend. I redid my wiring from the battery to the lights (figured when I had originally wired them up, it was a quick half assed job). Well when I finished it I tried the switch and nothing. After rechecking my connections and using a multimeter, I found out my ground connection came loose in the connector itself.

Turns out I just needed to tighten up the wire connector, but at least my wiring is done right and loomed up.

Doesn’t sound dumb at all. It was a good catch, grounds are somewhat overlooked when checking electrical problems.

I have a green, white, and brown wire that connect to my light switch. I forgot what order the go in. If looking at the switch as if it were mounted from left to right what is the order of the wires. I think brown in first but not sure.

Thanks Jake

That still doesn't mean the relay is good. The contacts could be burned out and the relay still actuate.

If it was wired per the KC wiring diagram then brown is ground (top), green is feed to relay (middle), and white is power (bottom)

I am wanting a new KC light switch. The one I have now works great. I just want to see what else is out there.

I know KC used to make bigger switches that had a big green switch that would light up.

Anyone know of a place were I could look at new switches?

Thanks Jake
