Check Engine Light...Can I Remove It ?

Hello everyone,

I'm new here so if this is in the wrong thread ... sorry.

But heres my question:
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT with the check engine light on. AutoZone says the code is throwing EGR valve but the guy says its probley 95% gonna be a vacume line.

Anyways, I have to get my truck "EChecked" (emissions) before I can renew my tags.
With the light on its an automatic fail and right now cash is tight to fix the problem.

Since I already have to replace some cluster bulbs can I just simply remove the check engine bulb and be fine ? Someone told it it will alarm until i re-install it...

HELP !

or you could try and find a vacuum leak.... pretty simple to do and its free if you do it yourself

yea if you can find the vacum line that is broke or leaking you can just use another hose that will fit over it and splice them together. should cost less than a couple bucks.

I don't know about where you live, but in california if the check engine bulb is removed it will automatically fail the visual inspection.

regardless if the bulb is there or not it will still have a trouble code stored in the PCM

In New York the inspection station connects to the OBD port . Any codes will show , whether there is a bulb or not.

Wirelessly posted (Android)

Well even if the light is out the computer is still throwing a code so you still fail an emission test. Best bet is to get it fixed.
