My 89 ranger, 2.9 auto percolated like a coffee maker.
i found a low miles 2.3 8 plug with good auto trans cheap out of a early 90’s mustang. Prefer economy over tire smoker.
will this swap work? Will mustang pcm swap? Any info welcomed!

 

Yes, what year Mustang, needs to be 1994 or earlier

You will need to find the Ranger engine bay cross brace to mount the 4cyl motor mounts

Yes, no reason the 2.3l Mustang PCM and wiring harness won't work in a Ranger

 

Its from a 1993. Several salvage yards nearby should have X member.

1993 looks to be a good swap, same as 1993 Ranger 2.3l as far as I can tell

If you get a Public Library card and set up a PIN number, you can log in from home and connect to EBSCO "auto repair" database
You can then view and download wiring diagrams for both 1993 Mustang 2.3l and 1989 2.9l Ranger.
This would help when connecting power and ground wires between the two different vehicle harnesses
