Dash lights go off when headlights on
Dash lights go off when headlights on
2002 Ranger Edge
When I turn the lights **** to the second setting, the dash lights come on.
When I turn the lights **** to the third setting, headlights on all the interior lights go off.
When I turn the dimmer switch all the way up, the cab light comes on and the dimmer works in the second position, but it does nothing in the third, except cab light.
The high beam light comes on when headlights are on and high beam is activated.
I would like the dash lights to be on when the headlights are on so I can see my speed.

Main light switch is bad, replace it
Its a rotary switch, when you turn it to "second setting" it connects 12v to the dimmer wheel and dash lights come on, if dimmer wheel is turned up a bit
Then when you turn it to the "third setting" it sends 12v from ANOTHER contact inside the switch to the dimmer wheel
This OTHER contact inside the switch has failed
The dimmer wheel has a second switch built in, when you turn it all the way "up" it will send 12v(from a different fuse) to the dome light(and cargo light, if so equipped), so this switch works even if main light switch is off
So no connection to dash lights

Welcome to the forum
1994 Ranger has a Pull on/Push off Main light switch, this thread was about a rotatory main light switch, but they did the same job, connecting 12v wires to light bulbs
Main light switch powers Park lights/dash lights in one setting, one click out, power goes directly to the bulbs
Pulled all the way out it powered the Multi-function switch, which then powered both low or high beam headlights
So if park and dash lights work without issues but only low/high beams are the issue then could be multi-function switch issue(turn signal stalk)
If problem is both Park and headlights then new Main lights switch is bad, or connector on it is bad
"Flash to Pass" on the multi-function switch doesn't use the Main Light switch 12v, it has a separate circuit
