2003 4.0 Crank no start

2003 4.0 Crank no start

I have a 2003 ranger edge 4.0 v6 with an auto trans and 4wd. Truck cranks but won't fire. Starts and runs with starting fluid in the intake so I know it has air spark and compression. Fuel pump works and the filter isn't clogged, I took off the feed line and fuel pumps out through the filter. Has fuel at the rail, checked that as well. Voltage at the injectors is correct. I haven't tested the injectors themselves. Replaced the ignition switch and reprogrammed 2 keys. Anti theft light flashes slowly, not rapid like before the keys were programmed. Dash/cluster have not been apart, but it sits with no battery. I haven't checked with a scanner for crank/cam sensor or other codes but it has no CEL with key on (and yes the lamp works). I'm open to all suggestions.

Welcome to the forum

No CEL with key on means no PCM boot up with key on, well not full boot up since spark works and fuel pump is priming

I guess you will need a Noid Light to test if you have injector pulses when cranking, but it reads like you will not.

Since it does start with adding fuel manually, the PCM is turning on and is seeing crank sensor pulses to time spark, so should have enough to time injectors
But no CEL with key on means PCM issue

12volts at injectors means they are only missing the ground pulses from PCM, which Noid Light tests

Slow flashing of the Theft light should only happen when key is OFF, it means PATS is activated and protecting vehicle, like an alarm light does to deter thieves
Theft light should come on steady and then go off with key on, and then stay off until key is off again

PATS disable fuel pump and fuel injectors, in 2003 it should also prevent starter motor activation using the key, since you can crank the the engine and do have fuel pump operation, I would says its not a PATS issue at this point

Thanks for the input. I'll put the scanner on it with the system monitor and see if I get any more info. Also maybe I should've added, it seems like there may be a bad ign switch ground because the *key in ignition chime* doesn't always go off. Perhps it could be a keyswitch problem? Also starter is hooked up with a momentary switch on the exciter wire and run into the cab so I could crank to see it I was getting injector voltage pulse and if I remember correctly, there was definitely a voltage cutout at the harness plug for the injectors when I tested but I may be misremembering. Anyway, if it IS a PCM issue, could it be solved with a replacement or am I just SOL on this truck? I only paid $200 for it but again it doesn't run and it needed an axle tube bearing on the back(rollers and cage were TRASHED but the outer race was still intact so no tube damage, thankfully) and I was hoping it wouldn't be a total loss but if it comes down to it I could scrap it or part it out I suppose (transfer case and trans are good, even just one of those would cover the cost of the truck probably) but again I was hoping to not have it come to that.
