I got a 95 ranger 3.0 that has a factory installed anti theft system. It's hit or miss with it. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes it won't (more often it doesn't work) the fob has brand new batteries. I've gone through the steps to program it, and my doors will lock to confirm the programming was a success, then I'll try to use the key fob immediately after and I get nothing.

Anyone have this issue or know how to go about fixing it?

 

The 1995 RAP(remote access personality) module should be behind drivers side rear panel, should be grey plastic box
This is what picks up the wireless signal and then tells GEM module to lock or unlock the doors

 

So does that thing need to be replaced? Or reset?

I assume you have found the RAP(RKE) module and all the wires look OK, you have unplugged it and plugged it back in to re-seat connectors?

There is no test for RAP module or GEM for that matter
If programming mode works then GEM and RAP should be connected, could be a bad wire on the GEM(behind the radio)

The RAP stores the Fobs ID numbers, when it gets unlock command it triggers GEM to unlock the doors, same for Lock
So RAP could be working but GEM isn't getting the unlock or lock signals
Or RAP is not sending out the signals at all
