Mustang swap

i have an 02 Ranger with a 3.0L v6 and a busted automatic trans. My dad is working out a deal with a gentleman with a 02 mustang that has a rebuilt engine and a manual trans. I don't know what engine it is. He says it's a V8 but I doubt he even asked the guy (just assuming it is). It'll either be a 3.8L V6 or a 4.6L V8. What all do I need to know and be prepared to alter for this swap. A/C would be ideal to have but not necessary if too complicated

Engine won't fit
And the shifter for the trans will be almost to the back of drivers seat, Mustangs have a long nose

You can look here for engine dimensions: https://performanceparts.ford.com/do...Dimensions.pdf

The popular V8 swap for a Ranger is the 302/5.0l, for a reason, its just under 19 INCHES WIDE, so it fits between steering shaft and Heater box, its tight but fits
Length of the engine is not a big deal as long as it has a short water pump option
And height is not a big deal because you can do a Body Lift
But width is a big deal, lots of work to move steering shaft and heater box, also exhaust has to go on the outside of the frame rails

Get the engine and trans, sell it and get a rusted out explorer with V8 and do the swap

Ok so the 3.8/4.6 is out of the question anyway. but i have a buddy with a 1975 302 (carburated) and a t5 transmission. its sitting in a 92 mustang right now. i know the typical is the 302 out of an explorer but, this is whats available. i did the measurements and everything should fit fairly well. just need to know what all i will need to get to make this work

1975 carburated 302 with a t5 manual transmission going into a 02 ranger with a 3.0 v6 and an automatic transmission.

I understand going from automatic to manual is a headache and i understand that putting an old engine in a new car is going to be a headache, i just need to know how much excedrine i need to buy.

I would check the T5's shifter location, from bell housing back, they are often much farther back on transmission that the M5OD so shifter would come up between the seats in a ranger

The M5OD-R2(M5R2) from a 1997 to 2002 4.2l V6(F-150s) will have better fit in ranger and the 4.2l had same bolt pattern as 302

Wiring wise it won't be to bad, you basically just need key on power for the spark system, and oil pressure wire and temp gauge wire which are all in the current engine wiring harness
You will need an inline fuel pressure regulator to lower the 50psi pressure down to 7psi for the carb

The speedometer will need an interface
If you can used the T5 you can install a VSS on its speedometer gear in trans
If you use the M5R2 then you may need a Dakota sgi-5e, speedometer interface
