Icon5 Power lock works - and doesn't

I just picked up a '99 XLT for my son. The drivers power lock sometimes works sometimes doesn't. I've been told two different fixes - actuator needs replacing or cracked wire at the door hinge. The wire seems like an easier fix - I really don't feel like dismanteling the door. Any ideas?

Thanks, JA

The switch might also be going bad. Mine worked good, then it was intermittant, then now nothing at all. Same thing with the window switch.

Lock actuator is shot. Or wiring issue some where.
