Radio help
I have an 08 Ranger Ranger my radio stopped working I thought it was the speakers replaced those and nothing...thought it was the radio replaced that and nothing..checked the fuses and nothing. Any ideas ?
Did you take a picture of the wire colors at any of the speakers?
And did the colors match at the radio end of the wires
Just seeing if there might be an amplifier in between radio and speakers
Does the radio turn on?
Did you check for 12volts key on at the radio, and a ground?
If you are using Ford Factory radio then pull out Fuse #22 in cab fuse box, thats the MUTE fuse, should only be activated in START, and I think REVERSE
It is a Green/orange stripe wire at the radio

If you have an ohm meter pull radio and test speaker wires
Wire colors in PDF
You will see 6 to 8 OHMS between the two wires to each speaker, unplugged from Radio
So if you put ohm meter on the white and the white/brown wire you will see, say 7 ohms, if not then speaker is not connected, if ohms are higher then it not connected to a speaker
Fuse #6, white/blue wire is radio power,
Fuse #22, green/orange wire is the mute it should NOT have 12v key on or off, disconnect it if you want
Fuse #24 powers many devices, it hold memory in the computer radio and other modules, not used to power radio
Look if you have a Fuse #12 if you do then you have a separate AMP

You said, the radio is on and the audio cuts in and out or does the radio cut in and out ?
Is the cutting in and out, while you are driving or sitting ?
Are there any other electric components that go out with the radio/audio ?
When you tried another radio, did act the same way, i.e. cutting in and out the same as the original radio ?
Are these radios OEM Ford ?

And test that Green/orange wire on the back of the radio, if its shorted to 12v then radio mutes each time it sees 12v on that wire
The SJB has been known to do that on other Fords with the Radio mute function

OK, is the Amp OEM or aftermarket ?
No matter which, you need to start by checking all of the inputs and outputs of the amp.
You changed the radio and the problem remained.
You changed the speakers and the problem remained.
Since you believe the problem to be Audio... there is only one thing left to test out.
See if the amp has fused outputs, maybe it is that simple.
Good Luck,
