you've got to calibrate it to your geographic coordinants. Full instructions can be found on ford's website if you look under a 96 explorer owner's manual (it's there, I used it about a month ago). You also have to drive in circles slowly to get the compass to work, it's all in there.

Also thanks John for the killer writeup! I put mine in a month ago and thanks to you i didn't even break a sweat!

2004-on Rangers no longer have a GEM. The functions that were previously assigned to the GEM, CSM and fuse panel are are integrated into the Smart Junction Box in the passenger side kick panel.

You can tap the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire (gray with black trace) at the instrument cluster or the SJB.

Ok I have it set to the right zone and it is also calibrated. I think I have found the vss wire. Its the grey with black i found it on the passanger side fuse area. What will this do if I tap into it? Does it just give you your mph on the overhead console?

It tells the console whether you are moving or stopped. When moving through the air, it is OK to update the temperature display. When stopped, the engine and radiator heat can cause the sensor to read artificially high. So, to prevent the erroneous temp readouts, the temperature updates are suspended when the VSS indicates that the truck is stopped.
