My Bronco2 Beater Project

Well after way too many broken parts I have decided to retire my Ranger back to daily driver status and build a proper off road rig. I love my Ranger but it just aint cuttin it for what I like to do.I need a beater I dont need to worry about with a good turning radius and good aproch and departure angles.I want something that will run all over a build Yj or XJ.

So with that being said I have picked up a salvage titled 84 B2 for 600.00
Truck has a Jasper reman 2.8 carbed v6 and C5 trans with 6k on them so far...runs like a champ! I have been slowly workin on the truck for the past month and have lots of pix of what I have done so far.

Here is what I have done so far: New shocks, new rad, waterpump, steering box, gauges,cd player w/iPod,new floor pans, bedliner floors, removed spare off gate and removed rear sway bar.

My plans so far are to take my 16x8 Ultras and 265Maxxis Buckshots and put on B2.
I am triming the fenders to fit.
Putting in seats, console and roof rack off a 89 b2.
Exploder rear springs with 2" blocks possibly.
8.8 with 4.10's,locker and Exploder cast diff cover.
d35 with 4.10's and a locker.
XJ coils.
sliders and a rollbar.
building winch bumper with lights and hooks
9000lb winch from Ranger.
EFI 5.0 swap.

I picked up an old Westin push bar that I am modding to hold my winch and lites and tow hooks. It will all be welded to my modded front bumper.

I scored a 100% complete 87k mile efi 5.0 out of a Cougar or Lincoln.I will use a Mustang harness, drop a H.O. cam and intake on it and bolt it up to my factory C5 trans.89 B2 efi sending unit for tank with a Walbro 190 pump in tank. I would prefer a Speed Density ecm so I could run the inlet tubing from the throttlebody right to snorkel PVC pipe up the A-pillar or into cab.

I will add pix later.

Please feel free to add comments to my list of mods, give advice or tell me where I am going wrong!

Floors turned out way better than they look in those pix.Cut out a lot of rust.
I added drain plugs in the floors also after these pix were taken.

Yeah its hit pretty bad as far as rust goes. Floors are good now and the fender rust will be cut out when I put my Bushwacker flares on. Then the only bad spot will be around the gas tank door and the bottoms of the doors. I am thinkin about cuttin off the bottom of the doors at the lowest body line and rebuilding them with much thinker sheet metal I have so they can take a beating.

Well lately I have been busy on the truck and Im pretty happy with progress so far.

I have put in new seats and center console out of a 90 B2,got CB all hooked up,Pushbar is mounted with new lights and recovery hooks.

Lately the motor has been running alot hotter than it has been in the past. Before it never went over 190 but the past few days it has been running 220.
Guess its a good thing I now have my 5.0 EFI sitting on the garage floor now. I will be dropping the 5.0 in prolly the first weekend in Sept.

Motor is nice and clean with 87k on it,got my bell, flywheel and a March underdrive pulley kit for it too.I am not sure if I need a new converter or if I can use the v6 one in it. Also got a 95 Explorer 8.8 with disc brakes,3.73 FMS gears, TFS gridle cover and the leafs off the 95 Explorer.

Have new pix stuck in my POS camera so I will get those up soon.

Did some minor trimming on the front fenders today and got the 32's on no problem. Love it! Aired to 30psi it rides so much better than before. I am goin to do the f-150 coil spacers up front and the Explorer leafs out back for hopefully a nice cheap 2" lift and call it a day...maybe a few new bushings here and there but for what I wanna do with it I think this should get me all the clearance I need to go do what I wanna do with this truck.

Next up is the EFI 5.0 swap in a week or so. Scored a free flywheel for the swap today also!

Here is a bad cell phone pic.

I have been on the fence wheather I should do this or not but today I said screw it and got out some filler, paint, tape and rollers and did my version of the "Toyota mod" to my truck. I like it!

The roof had 6 holes in from an old visor that was ripped off it plus one corner was rusted thru pretty bad so I had to do something to stop the water leak inside.I ground out the rust filled the holes and did a QUICK sand and prep job on the roof and painted it gloss white.....with a roller :D

I always liked how the FJ Toyotas had the white roofs and since its like driving around in a microwave on high any day the sun is out I figured why not try it.

build looks great. but i think your nuts. if you havent gotten it allready get a MAF computer. that speed density is a pita. at least in my mustang. it actually might work allright for you, but im going to get new heads, upper/lower intake and a cam which will rape the sd computer so i need to convert to maf 1st. just something you might wanna think about for down the road.

The reason I want to use the SD is because I am leaving the motor stock. I am an old skool 5.0 Mustang guy and have been playin with EFI Mustangs since the late 80's so I know all about them.I have been into efi 2.3 turbo stuff the last ten years so Im a little rusty on my 5.0 tech as far as the wiring so thats why I aint sure about if the ecm or the way the harness is wires dictates the order the injectores fire. I am goin to use the H.O. intakes, cam and TB with a 87 Mustang GT ecm but I have a harness from a non-HO 5.0 LX T-bird to use. I am sure when Im done it will look like a factory install.
