2005 Ranger 4.0 XLT stalling after 15 minutes, now wont start
I got a problem with my ranger. I've taken it to the Ford dealership for the 3rd time now (it is there currently) with no luck. No CEL
The problem:
- Truck will start and drive fine for about 15 minutes
- Stalled at stop light
- Will start back up, but start to die slowly (shakes violently as RPMs drop)
If I let it sit for a couple hours, it will usually start up and drive just fine. But then about 15 minutes it will stall again.
Ford has ran thru some tests and everything is showing up normal. They thought it was fuel related so all 6 fuel injectors have been replaced. Fuel filter is new. Again there is no check engine light, so no codes. My inertia switch is bypassed because I got tired of it tripping at random times (california roads).
Does anybody have any idea what this could be? I'm going broke getting tows and rental cars. This is my work truck and I need to get it running asap or else I'm gonna starve to death. Thanks!

How many miles on your truck?
If it stumbled to a halt maybe you could've smelled the tail pipe for unburned gas....bad ignition?
Could a fuel pressure regulator be going bad relevent to heat (15 minute warm-up)...no fuel?
Did you try the "driving/breakdown" cycle with the MAF disconnected?
All guesses. Good luck

Your vehicle has been wrecked before, just FYI if you didn't know, its the inertia switch, it was tripped in an accident and most rebuilders don't replace it if it can be reset
A new inertia switch won't trip on a hard bump, only a sudden stop or roll over, they have parts inside that hold the metal weight in place these are broken when its tripped the first time, so it becomes much easier to trip after that
If there are no codes then its most likely fuel related, computer doesn't have fuel pressure sensor
Get a can of quick start(ether) and screwdriver or pliers, for 50/50 test
Run engine until it stalls then try to restart, if no restart the do the 50/50 test
Pull off air filter or Power Brake booster hose
Spray ether into the engine, replace hose, you can leave air filter off
Try to start engine
If it starts and then dies fuel is the issue, try some more ether to confirm
If it doesn't start/fire then Spark is the issue
50/50 instant results
If it is fuel related then you will replace the fuel pump assembly at this point, since filter is new, the assembly has the pump AND fuel pressure regulator, motorcraft brand is worth the extra money, 3rd party work but often fail and need to be replace, under warranty but still a pain to replace them
And it can be a computer issue, but way down on the list of things that break, but they do, and no codes because..............it is broken, lol
