04 4.0 RANGER A/C not working

Hey everyone, a while back while working on my ranger I accidentally disconnected the a/c hose from the mini radiator (or whatever it's called) and all of the freon escaped and I guess air filled the system. Prior to this happening the a/c worked great. I tried recharging the system and with appropriate levels of refrigerant it still blows room temp air. I wasn't worried about it before because I always have my windows down anyways, but now that its 90 degrees outside that's not cutting it. The a/c compressor seems to be working fine, and I'm guessing the issue has something to do with the air in the system but i'm not sure. Any ideas? Thanks!

Yes, but its not the air per say its the moister IN the air that kills the accumulator or receiver/drier, thats the tank by the heater box, there is also an orifice tube(filter) than needs to be changed

The parts are not expensive, maybe $45

So you will have to evacuate the system again, did the new R134a "freon" have a dye in it?
If so look for leaks now before installing the new parts

Then recharge system

How long has the system had air in it?
And does the compressor(thing with the pulley) sound OK when its on?

Thanks for the reply, its had air in it for a couple months and the freon did not have dye. I'm not sure what an "OK" sounding compressor sounds like but it kicks on for a few seconds then stops and comes back on about 5-10 seconds later and it sounds alright. Also if I replaced those parts how do I "evacuate the system" without letting air in? thanks

You would hear a bad compressor, grinding noise

You drain the system then put on the new parts and filter then refill it within a day or so, its weeks with air inside that ruins the drier, it collects moisture and if exposed to air too long it quits working
Think of a towel, works great to dry you off IF you leave it outside the shower door, if you bring it in the shower with you.............then it won't dry you off very well, but its the same towel??
LOL
