gas mileage on my 4cyl 2.5

Hey everybody. I just recently purchased a 2000 Ranger XL with 60,000 miles on it. Everything looks factory on it, nothing aftermarket, no performance parts. I just filled the tank up full, and so far (I havn't emptied the tank yet), but so far, it seems like I am only getting 10-12 miles per the gallon. Any tips on improving that? Should I drive the tank to E and then figure it out before I jump to any conclusions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

well first of all the gauge could be off. I would top it off and do your mileage calculations. FYI, its miles traveled / gallons filled......

if you set you trip O/D you can go to the pump any time but FILL all the way back up... doing this calculation...

Miles/gal used

so if your trip O/D is 240 miles and just pumped in 12 gal

240/12=20mpg.....

you dont have to go all the way to empty

OK. My trip odometer was reset and I've driven only 50 miles since my last full fill up. The gas gauge has gone done a quarter from the FULL line. Considering the tank is 16.5 gallons, I'm estimating roughly 4 gallons used, which comes out to 12.5 miles per gallon.

Alright, thank you. I'll be posting after I re-fill the tank. So basically pay attention to the gallons pumped when I do refill it. Then divide that number into the miles on my trip o/d and that will give me my gas mileage.

I do appreciate the help. I love my Ranger so far, and I want it running the best that it can.

Mine was getting roughly 18 mpg, but with some significant mods here and there. I'd say that's a frickin sweet gas mileage!
