What does a good weld look like?
Are you basing them on pretty welds?
MIG the better they look the better they are
All of Jey's welds are stick welds and have three passes on everything. I guarantee you they are stronger than the welds FORD put on your truck!
I'm not trying to bash...but...

I just got done reading the thread you made over on TRS. Don't listen to them. I'm pretty sure Jey knows what he's doing. I mean...his Ranger is pretty damn badass. And the **** he's put it through...its tough.
Thanks for the props. I'm sure if my welding sucked I would have fixed alot more **** on my truck than a pinion yoke.
Anyways an update on brenton's truck. I was unhappy with the pinion and castor angle, and since brenton has not gotten wheels and tires yet i went ahead and pulled the axle back off, re-cut and turned the knuckles, and re-mounted the perches accordingly.
Re-installed the axle onto the truck, everything is ready to go, and bam, evidently when the steering box was rebuilt, the o-ring sealing the fluid from the top plate (with the pre-load adjustment screw) was pinched upon installation and was blowing fluid everywhere. Ordered the o-ring from toyota for 3.97 and it will be here wednesday morning supposibly.
So in order to continue and turn the truck around to set the gears up in the rear axle I bolted my rear tires onto the front of his, pulled it around with my Polaris Trailboss 330 (plug for where I work? maybe) and yomie pulled the *** end sideways (since steering box is taken apart, therefor draglink is un-hooked and we were steering the tires by hand) we got it turned around.
Upon dissasembly, the gears had been improperly set-up when the LS carrier was installed, the pattern showed a very tight clearance (not enough backspacing). The fluid looked like 1 year old baby diarrhea mixed with a chocolate milk shake. The ring gear AND carrier had rust from being swamp donkey'd.
tomorrow I will pull the bearings off the carrier, pull the pinion out and start setting them up. Hopefully won't take too long. It's supposed to rain again on wednesday.
Sorry for the long update. I'll post pictures next time i'm at my computer.
