I can get the motor without all accesories and wiring and already pulled for $450. So all i gotta do is get the little stuff that goes with it. It's not gunna be the easiest thing ever but i can make it work.

Ahh, ok. Strange, they usually come with the wiring harness.
As for the accessories, you should be able to just unbolt the whole accessory drive, instead of individuals. Motor's don't usually come with the brackets either.

Yea, i know about that stuff. Im hopin that eddie bauer will stay in the yard for a while. But i havent even gone to the other local yards yet. And the motor is in texas and the guy told me that it'll come with the harness but it'll more than likely be cut all up. So thats why i got this one. And all the other accessories were gone on the 5.0 in the yard today. this was all that was left. I should have got the bracket that it mounts on but i'll get it later or get it from another yard. And i'm goin ahead and pullin the 4.0 out my truck. Startin on it tomorrow. May be able to completely pull it if i can find a hoist to borrow. Sellin motor with all accesories and wiring harness for $600 Motor still runs great just needs a head gasket (it's got a small leak on the drivers side. Not gunna seperate parts until im for sure that no one wants the complete package. It'll be in the classifides.

Sure. Hell, some people disable it on daily drivers too. It just makes em a bit easier to steal.

No big deal since you're gonna need a custom tune to get rid of the transmission functions. Just ask the tuner to remove PATS also.

That's really all there is to it? just tell my tuner to delete pats when he's doin all the other ****? AWESOME!! :) I'm really hopin someone will come through and buy the 4.0 parts as a package so i can just take em out, ship and go cash my check. lol But more than likely i'll end up selling each part seperately through ebay.

Yup. If you're planning on having it tuned in person, obviously, you won't be able to drive it to the tuner. The PATS function has to be deleted before it will start. However, if you're having a tune written by someone like Henson Performance, and then loading it yourself with a SCT xcal2, its just part of the process.

Cool beans. I'm not sure what kind of tune im doing. I'll think about it as time gets closer. I'd love to have a live dyno tune done on it but i'll prolly jus go with the sct xcal2. How much does a good tune and the tool run?

Got the motor ready to pull. Everything is unplugged from chassis. All that is left is to take out the motor mount and trans mount bolts. Anyone ever pulled the motor with the trans hooked up and the accesory drive hooked up? Thats what i wanna do. Radiator and shroud are out so it looks like we could pull it off. Gettin a hoist for friday i believe. And i'm gunna be keeping up with the total on this project and right now i'm sittin at $85. lol

Sadly, you'll have to drop the trans. I tried it and couldn't get er out. Didn't try removing the FEAD, but its not that hard to pull the trans.
Chris

Whoops, just reread your post and realized you didn't indicate which motor. If you're tryin to pull the V8 in the yard, ya need to drop the trans. If you're pulling the old motor and trans out of your truck, then ya can do it all at once. Just make sure you drain the trans or you'll have one hell of a spill. Don't ask me how I know, lol.

Here's my build thread for pics of the combo coming out: http://www.therangerstation.com/foru...ad.php?t=67738

When pulling the 4.0 where did you hook the chains to the motor? Thanks

Its been awhile, but glancing at the pics to refresh my memory,
Front Passenger: one of the Alternator bolts, It will probably be bent so don't plan to reuse it
Front Driver: one of the AC compressor bolts
Rear: Either unused tapped holes in back of heads or exhast manifold bolts.

Lookin at the pics it looks like all you took off was alternator and a couple other things. so thats good, i didnt wanna take it a part in case someone wanted to buy it is a package i could just ship it out to em as one piece. Oh yeah, how much did your sct xcal2 and good tune run you?

The only thing you really have to pull is the fan/fan clutch assembly. In my pics, the water pump is off because i didnt have a fan clutch removal set yet, and the alternator is off because it is a very expensive Powermaster 200A unit and I was already mocking it up on the 5.0 (not a big deal to install a ranger alt on a 5.0 btw)

As for the programmer, I havent actually gotten my setup tuned yet. I'm sure i've got some power to unlock, but have just been lazy really. Too busy workin on my T-bird lately.
Anyways, I do have the SCT tuner, which I bought a LONG time ago for my 4.0 ohv. I believe it was in the $350 range for the tuner with 3 tunes loaded, but i might be wrong. I really need to get on having a 5.0 tune written, lol.
Also occurs to me its the SCT X3, not the xcal2. Newer version, my bad.

Ohh, alrighty. Good to know on the alternator. I'll have to see what all it'll take to do it if i don't sell it with the motor. Thanks man, and which tuner do you suggest? I've heard of so many different ones and so many different things about each one. lol

Cool. Thanks again man. Tryin to get a buyer on all the 4.0 stuff. That's pretty much the only money i have to use on the project right now. Puttin it on ebay as soon as i get it all pulled and can take good pics of it.

It will be alot cheaper to go with an auto for now. Then swap the manual in down the road when you can afford it.

Yea, thats true. I could just do it next summer when i'm working full time or with tax returns (if i dont use tax returns to finish the auto 5.0 lol) I'm hopin i can get my tax reuturns back pretty soon too, It'll be nice this year, with all the o.t. work i did this summer and i'm a full time student and i've heard that you get almost every penny back if you file as student. So what do i need to get the tranny out of? Any 99-01 5.0 explorer?

If you are using a 99~01 5.0 engine and PCM in your Ranger 4x4, then you'll need a 4R70W AWD transmission from a 99~01 5.0 Explorer.

I believe 98-01 explorer trans will work, but I would stick with 99-01 just to be sure.
